Windows 10: what is the deal with network credentials?

I have 4 computers on a home network, I do backups the old school way, every 2 months or so I copy over the media from one computer to another over my 1GB hard wired network.

After installing windows 10 three of the computers keep asking me for network credentials to connect to the main computer where my media is and being shared to the other three.

I go to control panel>user accounts>manager your credentials and set a login and password for the main computer, I duplicate it on the other three computers, still though everytime the 3 computers trying to connect to the main computer are asking me for network credentials, I put in the login and password and yet it never connects.

Not sure if this will help but on the main computer I can connect to the other three computers and see their contents just not the other way around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, been working on this quite a few hours so far and not getting anywhere.

You start a thread with a title but you do not mention anything about it in your post.

All you do is complain with out asking about anything.

Click on Start
All the way at the top is your profile for Windows 10
Right click on it and select your account settings
(You can also access this by... Start>Settings>Accounts)
Whatever you used to sign into your PC/Win 10 is your Credentials

It's either a Microsoft login or a local one you created. Either way, you can change this under the main Account page or if you look to the left of the pane you will see "Sign-in options". Change it there if you want.

When prompted, enter those Credentials on the other PC's connected to your home network/router.

Make sure the credential username has the computer name prefixed e.g. compname\username

 

I learned two other related items when I found websites complaining that Windows did not know the right passwords.

1) Removing the web credentials and replacing them with WIndows Credentials (GENERIC) allowed me to properly store the different passwords for different subdomains. Eg. Pwd1 for SUB1.domain.com and Pwd2 for SUB2.domain.com

The other (this is hysterical now, but not at the time)
2) If you are using a local windows account (not a foobar Microsoft account) and you don't have a password set, you cannot edit the credentials. There are plenty of reasons not to have a password set in a physical security environment, but you have to set a password for the local account before you can change any credentials!

and bonus item:
3) If you cannot find the credential manager in the search box, because Windows won't give it to you, open the CONTROL PANEL and use the search box in the control panel to get to the Credentials manager.

Gotta love WIndows 10, but gotta love anarchy too.

 

When you connect to a network by default Windows passes the credentials of the logged in user so the simple way is to create users on the PC with same name password as the ones people love with that way it doesn't ask for login

 

I set up the home group on my Windows 10 (dell) and Windows 8 (vaio). I set it not to ask for password but when I access the vaio's files from the dell, it still asks for password whenever I click on the user name. The vaio does not have a password set up so I tried to put blank on the password but it does not work. I then tried to put a password on the vaio but I still can't connect.

The dell in the other hand, when I access its files from the vaio works fine. I can see all the files, copy and edit it when I access it from the vaio.

Any input?
