  1. What is the default audio setting in Windows when I connect an HDMI + USB source?

When connecting a Windows laptop or a Surface Pro to a large format interactive display with HDMI and USB cables, it seems that the OS chooses the audio to be default on HDMI.

However, the display allows for USB audio signal to be sent too.

Is the OS locking default on HDMI audio?

How can I get it to lock default on USB audio?

Over USB I also want to leverage the microphone and camera which are built into the large display.

But they default to the internal computer speakers and laptop camera.

    Using the TEAMS client.

The USB devices on the display (camera, mic, speakers) enumerate as a telephony device.

    :)

    Occasionally no audio from HDMI

Try setting hdmi as the default sound device in windows it may help and in the playback devices you can switch from spdif to hdmi without rebooting.

If the tv is not on the pc will not detect a hdmi device so it sets the audio to the next default audio source it's the way windows handles not knowing the audio\video output source.

HDMI audio driver for ASUS X551M laptop?

This is from Intel regarding hdmi:
    • Install the latest Intel® Graphics Driver, this also installs the latest audio codecs for HDMI.
    • After driver installation, connect to the HDMI TV or digital display, using a HDMI cable.
    • Select HDMI audio as your default playback device. Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound.
    • Click Sound. The Playback tab lists the audio playback devices for your computer.
    • Right-click on the device for HDMI audio, and select Set as Default Device.
