Windows 10: What is the diference between shell:programs and shell:common programs

In the windows start menu we can find all the programs direct access: These .Ink are located in two differents folders :C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs [1]C:\Users\jorge\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs [2][1] [2]What is the difference between these two folders or paths?Which is better?Which should i use?PD: I have modified a little the contents of these two folders, but i dont see noticeable difference. Some apps afte getting installed appears in [1] others in [2]. ~Thanks!

Classic Shell Program

I wanted to take the Classic Shell Program off my computer. I went in and deleted program. Now it is saying Classic Shell needs to configure itself for new OS. How do I end this annoyance.

Windows Shell Common Dll has stopped working

Hi Thomas,

A DLL file contains data and sets of functions that other programs in Windows use on a daily basis. The
Windows Shell Common DLL is not responding error indicates that the Windows Shell Common DLL has crashed due to some error. Usually, Windows will crash after attempting to make changes in the configurations of the audio devices or recording
devices.

To resolve the issue, we suggest that you install appropriate audio drivers. Incompatible audio device drivers are known to operate against the method that Windows 10 follows. Make sure that you are using a stable version of drivers instead of any Beta version.
You can download earlier version of the drivers for your operating system from the computer model manufacturer’s website and install it through Device Manager.

If the issue persists, install the driver in compatibility mode. You may refer to the steps below:

• Right-click on the driver and select Properties.
• Select Compatibility tab.
• Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop-down list.
• Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Classic Shell Program

No problem, glad I can help. I’m wondering if you can check one more location for me to make sure it’s gone.

Click start and type “control panel” - open that, and then search “programs and features” and open it. See if classic shell is on that list of apps. If it’s gone you’re probably in good shape.

As far as an opinion, I do. When windows 8 came out, Microsoft removed the start menu. It came in very handy for that instance. When they added it back in windows 10, classic shell lost its allure to me.
