Windows 10: What is the lastest update and how long is the install?

OK, I get it, the subject is ridiculous. But, I have no idea what might be better. I had to re-install Windows a month ago which was an experience in itself. Virtually nothing worked as indicated by MS, but I managed to forge through it. I obtained all the updates or cumulative updates since 2017 when my Dell was manufactured, got everything put back together and it seemed OK. I also shut off automatic updates, or so I thought. But last night while I was out of the room, it started on an update. I have no idea which update since all I now have is a screen saying it is 20% done and not to turn off my PC. It was on 19% for about an hour and it's about 20 minutes into 20%. At this rate it ought to be done maybe by next Thursday.


Anyone have any idea what might be getting installed? How long it might take? Is there a way to ignore the warning about turning off the PC, come up in safe mode and recover without having to re-install Windows - again?


I'll ask about why Windows ignored shutting off automtic updates after I get my system back.

Insurgency wont install and run for me....

I have played and have fully updated CS and Half life 2....
I am using the newest client and installed the SDK.

I am completely blown away, if i click the desktop icon it starts the sdk and then closes, and it doesn't show up in my game list...

First mod attempt install here, followed the directions step by step on the mods website...

Any ideas?

This error may happen due to system file corruption or Visual C++ redistributable package corruption. I suggest you to follow the below given methods:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the Windows update troubleshooter and check if it helps.

• 
  Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.
  
• 
  Select Troubleshooting. Click on
  view all and select Windows Update and follow the on-screen instructions.
  

Try below given method if issue persist.

Method 2:

Kindly download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 20008 Redistributable Package from below given link and check if it helps:

Method 3:

I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps:

• Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
• In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter.
• Restart the computer.

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
• In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

• Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
