Hello everyone! I'm wondering about "OneAuth" folder, what it is and what is it used for. Recently, I asked a very similar question on this forum https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/what-are-oneauth-files/b6ae3287-cc17-4f31-b95d-5667c335d120?fbclid=IwAR1vdu3JRl1BvwFjojzGWLJVxR948NyA4LNRelK1EoOOqls9YUIYJ6NwRVw, but I belive I may add further context to the question and I'm still not 100% sure about what process caused that. Here's a summary of my situation: I was using a Windows 10 Education license which I got from my University for about two years. I ha

    What are oneauth files?

Hello Jack, this is Emily. I believe we chatted yesterday here in the forum yesterday.

Zoho OneAuth is indeed a legitimate authentication application provided by Zoho. It's possible that your university provided a custom authentication mechanism that utilized the "oneauth" folder to store relevant information. This could be related to your university email account or other university services that required authentication. The presence of your university's name and email address suggests a connection to your educational institution.

There are many different MFA authentication services available out there. Zoho OneAuth is one, Okta is another example. Organizations don't always use the Microsoft native ones. Sometimes they use these third party ones to add another layer of security to protect their users. I don't see any red flag or concern here. You can always ask your school IT to verify that they indeed use Zoho OneAuth.

  3. What are oneauth files?

    Hello everyone!

Some context at start: I was using a Windows 10 Education license which I got from my University for about two years. I had a local account on that PC, and no accounts in "connect to school or workplace" option. I remeber searching my files one day, where on C drive I found a folder called "oneauth". When I opened files inside, I remember seeing my university's account's email address and my univeristy's (organization's) name. At that time, I didn't think much about these. A few weeks ago I changed my system to Windows 10 Home and then I remebered those files. However, after searching for them once again, those files could no longer be found.

My question is: What were those files? The only information I can find about "oneauth" is something called "Zoho OneAuth", but that doesn't seem right. My best guess is that I logged into my school account via web browser, so maybe some information got saved that way? Any explenation to what those file were and why I had my organiztion's name and email adress would be a great help. I'm trying to figure out what exactly were they authorising and to who?

    Thank you!
