Windows 10: What is the windows default app to read .srt files?

Hi,What is the original file type for windows to read .srt files? I hit something and changed all .srt files to be read by Medic Player Classic, and I need to get back to original app to read .srt files. And how can I change windows so that it no longer thinks all .srt files should be read by Media Player Classic?Thank you!George

Unable to open SRT Files with the default application.

So I recently reinstalled windows 10 and activated them. After this update I cant seem to set the default app for SRT files to be the WordPad app. The SRT files are being stored in 4 TB mechanical drive that I didn't modify by any means before or after the
upgrade. So every time I need to open an SRT file I have to choose the WordPad and even though I state that I want to use the WordPad as the default app for SRT files nothing changes. I have tried changing this option through the "choose default apps by file
type" option in default apps in the settings but I cant seem to find the SRT file type in the list. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Dave, but i'm affraid that is not fixing my issue.

I have already tried that, nothing happens, the file is opened in notepad normally, but isn't remain asocciated as it should.

the .SRT option isn't shown on the list, as i wanted to associate those file types using the applet.

Can I add the SRT file type on this list? ( i sniped the screen for you )

Thank you for replying.

If you are not able to see the .SRT key in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, then you need to add that manually by following the below steps.

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully.
For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please refer this link:

Step 1: Press the Windows key and the
R key from your keyboard and type Regedit and hit Enter (If prompted for User Account Control, click on
Yes).

Step 2: Then, on the left pane, Right-Click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
> New > Key and name that key to .SRT.

Step 3: Now, go to Settings > Apps
> Default apps > Choose default apps by file type > Scroll down the list and there you will see the
.SRT file extension in the list.

Step 4: Go to This PC and click on
View option and check box the option File name extensions.

Step 5: Right-Click on an empty space on the
desktop > New > Text Document > Delete the whole file name of that text (including .txt) document and rename it to
new document.srt and hit Enter and click on
Yes if prompted.

Step 6: Then, right-click on New document.srt file from your desktop and click on
Properties > Change > More apps >
WordPad > OK > Apply >
OK.

If the application is not changing to WordPad for the .SRT file, then repeat the
Step 6 two to three times and then check for the issue.
