Windows 10: What is "Windows Storage Management" in Optional Features (build 2004)?

on Windows 10 build 2004:



Settings app -> Apps -> Optional Features -> Add a Feature -> "Windows Storage Management - 12.1 MB"



has anyone tried it? is it new for build 2004?



there's literally no information on the Internet or Reddit about this Optional Feature.

manage optional features

Hi Alicia,

There could be a setting that has been configured to open the Manage optional features automatically. We'd like to know a few things so we could provide an accurate resolution. Kindly answer the following:

• Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
• Is Manage optional features popping up right after you turn on your computer or while using it?
  
• Are you trying to disable the Manage optional features completely?

If you're trying to disable any of the optional features, here are the steps on how to do it :

• Go to Control Panel and click on Programs.
• Click on the Turn Windows features on or off.
• On Windows Features, select the feature(s) that you want to enable or disable and click
  OK.
  
• Restart your computer as the wizard says to complete the task.

How to load Removable Storage Manager feature in Windows 10?

Actually the client used the IOmega REV utility, which from research the NTBackup util will access. But the instructions for running it under Windows 10 is TOTALLY incomplete. So I have rigged up a Windows 7 box to access it, still would like to get it
going.

The info Microsoft has on their download page instructions for the backup util to be able to run on Win10, tells you something to turn on, that you cannot get to.

Before you install and run Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility, you need to turn on or install the Removable Storage Management feature.

• Note: An NTSMAPI.dll error may occur if Removable Storage Management is not enabled.

To turn on Removable Storage Management in Windows Vista

1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click
   Programs, and then click Turn Windows Features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Select the check box next to Removable Storage Management to turn the feature on, and then click
   OK.

To install Removable Storage Management on Windows Server 2008

1. Click Control Panel and then click Administrative Tools.
2. Open Server Manager, navigate to the Features Summary section, and click
   Add features.
3. Select the check box next to Removable Storage Manager, click
   Next, and then click Install.

To install Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility

1. Click the Download button next to a file listed below.
2. To start the installation immediately, click Run.
   
   -or-
   
   To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click
   Save.

To start Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility

1. Click the Start button, click Programs, click
   Windows NT Backup Restore - Utility, and then click Ntbackup-RestoreUtility.

The NTBackup tells you to turn it on, no place to find Removable Storage Management.



And I am no dummy on this sort of stuff.
