Windows 10: What is with the numbers on my personalize tab? My Cortana (the search bar I assume) is not...

I can't type on the search bar.

As well as the search bar for folders.



Hiya, as the title states, what are these weird numbers am seeing? Plus, when I go to the "Lockscreen" it will immediately crash. This was also a recent buy if that will help, I also watched and did what this video told me to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KFc6l8jrVs although, I only started from the Ninite part.

My search bar has not been properly working aswell, I did the powershell solution, did not work, did the manifest thing for cortana aswell did not work. I am sorry if my words and phrasing are confusing, English is not my mother tongue.

Search Bar/Cortana

Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 family.

From the description, I understand that you are still receiving the pop up notifications, despite having disabled the search functionality in windows 10.

Steps to disable the Search Bar

• Right click on the task bar.
• Select the "Search" option.
• Select "Disable."

However, if the above steps don't work out, perform the below suggested steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Open a CMD window started as Administrator.

Repair corruption: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

Run this command next: Sfc /scannow

Now run these two commands:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Cortana and Search Box no longer working after windows refresh

Thanks for your quick response. To answer your questions:

• Per your suggestion, I tried Safe Mode. The problems still existed in Safe Mode. As a side note - I realized in the process that my power button has disappeared from the sign in screen, so I had to activate Safe Mode from Settings. Not sure if that is
  related to the Cortana issue or not.
• I ran sfc/scannow. It came back that there were some corrupted files, but they could not be fixed. I restarted the computer, and the search bar/Cortana still wouldn't work.
• I ran all three Dism prompts and they all came back as having successfully completed. I restarted the computer, and the search bar/Cortana still wouldn't work.

What would you suggest as a next step?

To better isolate your concern, we'd like to check the following:

• If Cortana still shows results in French after performing the steps posted on the link that we've shared.
• If there are other applications on your device that exhibit the same concern.

In the meantime, we'd recommend checking the language set up specifically for Cortana. To do this, you can perform the following:

• Click on the Search bar.
• Click on the gear icon.
• Scroll to the option that has a drop down menu.
• Select English.
