    What kind of speeds should I be getting when downloading to a share?


    When I download files directly to my server, it's way slower than downloading to a local drive. What usually happens is that the download begins at a really quick speed, but then plummets. Once in a while, it'll jump back up to a tolerable speed (e.g., above 3 MB/s), but it doesn't get anywhere close to the limits of my connection. I can hit 30 MB/s when downloading to a local drive, but when I download that same file to a server, I can barely get over 10 MB/s.

    • Have you made any significant changes prior to this issue?
    • What kind of connection do you have? Is it wired or wireless connection?
    • What does your ISP say you should be getting?
    Your download speed will vary depending on where you are downloading from.

    We suggest you to check for Windows updates. Also, If you are on a wireless connection, try switching to a wired connection and attempt the download.

    Hi,

    • I would suggest you to test the speed using any of the speed test website or app to confirm the upload and download speed.
    • I also suggest you to reset the wireless router to check if that helps.
    • You may plug in the Ethernet cable if available and check the speed.

    • Do you get same download speed every time your wife login?
    • Since when are you facing this issue?
    • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue?
    • Is it Microsoft Account or Local Account?
    I suspect this might have caused due to some corruption in the Account.

    Hence, I suggest you to run the Microsoft Account troubleshooter and check if it helps.
