  1. What makes touchscreen stop being a touch screen and USB not recognize plug and play devices?

I had to go back to Win 10 from 11 and get rid of Avast anti virus and turn on Win Defender. I had a Touch screen and a Logitech wireless mouse and a wired USB headset. The night I turned on Win Defender It got a Security Intelligence update. The next morning I had no touch screen and no mouse and no headset. I updated all available drivers although the mouse and headset are plug and play they require no drivers. Looking under Settings>System>Pen and Touch I see "No pen or touch input is available for this display", which is funny because for the last 2 years it was a touch screen. HP

  2. Touchscreen on laptop not working because usb not recognized

I know what the problem is but I don't know how to activate it. My laptop's touchscreen isn't working. It's not showing up in Device Manager because it doesn't recognize the USB for the touch screen. The USB says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor
Request Failed)". I don't know how to make Windows recognize it for the the touchscreen to come back on.

Touch screen stops working, Windows 10

It's gone again!! I was using an app with the touchscreen, when I saw the on screen symbol in the task bar flicker, it then disappeared and the touch screen stopped working.

Step one now tells me that it is applying a fix, then comes up with the message - Unknown usb device (device descriptor failed) is not working properly. Your pc must be restarted. - Restarted and went back and ran troubleshooter again, getting exactly the
    same result and message.

Step 2 - The touch screen driver has now vanished from the list! (last week when the touchscreen wasn't working I tried to find the driver and couldn't - perhaps this is why!)

    HELP!

    Touchscreen USB issue

I have an HP Envy4 TouchSmart Ultrabook. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 2 months ago. After some severe initial problems, I eventually had everything working well. Recently I was away for a week and left my computer at home and turned off. When
I got home I started getting recurring messages saying that the last usb device that I connected was not recognized and may have malfunctioned. Coincident with the messages my screen would flicker. I also noticed the touchscreen was not functioning.

    I did the following:

    • Checked to make sure I had the latest drivers (I did) and did a full virus scan.
    • Connected all of my usb devices one at a time to the computer (and later 3 at a time) and they all worked fine.
    • Tried a restore going back 2 weeks before I had this problem and it did not help (I later undid the restore).
    • Uninstalled my USB root hubs using device manager (they came back and the problem continued)
    • Found the touchscreen in HID section, as a hidden device, and I uninstalled it (it comes back with problem unresolved)
    • Noticed that each time the screen flickered the touchscreen briefly became unhidden in the HID section in Device manager and then touchscreen worked briefly.
    • Disabled all the USB root hubs and the flickering and messages stopped but no touchscreen, I then found I could enable the USB 3 hub and one of the 2 USB 2 hubs and I had no flickering but still no touchscreen. Currently my computer is functioning with
the exception of the touchscreen as long as I keep the one usb root hub disabled.

Has anyone else had this issue and been able to fix it? Any suggestions for a next step? I don't want to try anything too risky because at least I can still use my computer with the touchpad right now.
