Windows 10: What process keeps spawning a browser and navigating to microsoft365.com every time my...

I have uninstalled Office from my computer years ago. I have checked the registry, scheduled task, startup item, and every other area of the computer I can think of for any Office remnants. As far as I can tell, Office is completely removed from my computer. But every time my computer wakes from sleep it opens a browser and navigates to https://www.microsoft365.com/?from=OfficeKey, prompting me to subscribe. Recently the displayed page is no longer trying to sell me O365, it's trying to get me to log into ChatGPT. I have tried running registry searches for the parameter value OfficeKey, a

It is very normal nowadays for browsers to spawn many processes, it is not normal for Edge to use 1.2GB of RAM

Browsers nowadays are very resource heavy, they are multithreaded and will spawn threads for the main executable the graphics engine, the audio engine, search engine among others and also a separate process for each tab open - all modern browsers do this .

Open the Settings App

Go to Apps

Find Edge in the list of installed apps

Click Edge, then click Advanced options

Choose Repair and let that process complete

Check to see if Edge is working properly and not using so much RAM

If not, then from Advanced Options, choose Reset to Reset the Edge browser

(Please Note, resetting Edge will remove your user data, including your bookmarks)

after recent updates I'm having to consider using a different browser because despite not havig any extensions installed its using a lot of memory and spawning multiple threads. I currently have only 3 tabs open and its spawned 12 processes and is
using 1.2 GB of memory. any ideas why as its getting to a point where I'm going to have to consider using a different browser.

 

Not able to spawn an independent process in Windows

Hey All,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I am facing the following issue in Windows only.

I am currently trying to spawn an independent process from within the Splunk's python. The process is a wsgi server that can run my scripts for me as a part of the app.

Now the process spawns correctly as a Detached process in Linux using the Python's subprocess module, but it fails in Windows (For obvious reasons). As an alternative to this, the obvious option was to create a service from within the Splunk's python in
Windows and start it.

For some reasons, Splunk's python installs the service correctly but fails to start it giving following error:

Error starting service: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I observed that if I install the service using systems python and then start it using Splunk's python - it works fine. This pointed to me think that the service was not able to find the dlls. I have checked that the dlls are in the path and still it doesn't
seems to include them.

Has anyone faced the issue? I am all ears for any other suggestions you might have to achieve this.
