  1. What should I do with two old extra hard disk drives

I have two HDDs that i am pretty sure are both sata 3 and they were both taken out of laptops. So i went onto amazon to buy two enclosures for them. My current setupthey havent arrived yet is a kingston a400 sata 3 250gb ssd, 2x intel celeron 1017u 1.6mhz cpus,8 gb ram2x 4, intel hd graphics built in gpuintergrated i thinkand the pc itself is a acer aspire v5-131. And a second monitor. One of the HDDs is my original 2.5" 500gb seagate hdd from my current laptop, and a toshiba satelite c55-b5100 500gb hard drive, so this would equal out to 1.250tbthe 250 is the 250 gb ssd i have and the 1 is the two hard drives together so what can i use these two for other than storage? Anything? Just want to ask.

P.s, as far as i know, they were banged up from bwing dropped, but they both somehow work like normal HDDs.

And i alao read that i should keep my files on the HDDs and the OS on the ssd.

    :)

  2. How to Partiton a Hard Drive in Vista

This is a way to get Vista to see another hard drive that is not associated with the OS. There is some times when your new hdd doesn't seem to want to work well with Vista. But, there is a solution in it.

Open the Computer Management By doing these steps.
    • Click on the Start Button
    • Click on Control Panel
    • Click Administrative Tools
    • Double click on Computer Management
You are now in the Navigation panel of the Computer Management.
When in Computer Management, you then have to allow the new drive to be recognized.
    • Double click on Storage
    • Double click on Disk Management
Now in the middle of your screen there is the layout of the Disk Drives that you have. The drives that are partitioned will show by the drive lettering. The others will just show up as having nothing at all in them. Below that there will be the Disk drives that are installed into the computer. You'll see that the primary one will all ways read as "Disk 0". Then you will have Disk 1 and so on. Under the Disks there will also see your CD-Rom drives.. If there is more then one, it will be labeled the same as Disk drives..

On to the Partitioning of the drive in question.
    • Right Click on the drive
    • Click to format the drive or Enable Volume. There will be a series of windows that open up. This is Vista's formatting. Just go threw the windows, and make sure everything is the way you want it to happen.
    • Once the formatting is done, will take some time depending on the drive size.
    • Right click on the drive
    • Click on Mark the Partition as Active
After you have done those steps, The drive will be up and running threw Vista.

    :Side Notes:
If you are not the Administer to the Os, then you will have to enable it..
You may also want to redo the drive lettering of it all. But, I really don't see a reason to do so. If you do, you have to redo drive paths and so forth.. A lot of work on something so small...

What should I do with two old extra hard disk drives

Windows 10 Update corrupted my extra hard drive

So my PC has 2 hard drives, one from the time I bought the new computer, and another one transferred from my old XP computer containing very important files. When I updated from Windows 7 to 10, my current C drive is fine, but my
E drive (the extra hard drive) is corrupted, and whenever I try to open it, it tells me that it is corrupted and needs to be formatted to open.

    • First off, is Windows 10 update suppose to do that?
I mean it did not format C drive, so it shouldn't format E drive as well.
    • Secondly, is there anyway to recover those files?

I am thinking that maybe the XP disk is not compatible with Windows 10, so maybe I can put it back in Windows 7 to recover the files. I am crossing my fingers on that option, but I do not have any more old computers. All my computers are updated to Windows
10, so that would be the last resort.

The main goal of this post is to ask for a way to recover the disk. Note, there is
no back up nor restore point.
