Windows 10: What these devices are supposed to do? Device Firmware, System Firmware, Microsoft Device...

I am working on a UEFI based bare-metal Hypervisor that supports boot and reboot of Windows running as a guest alongside and RTOS/Linux. The complete UEFI (built from EDK2 repo on github) is re-run inside guest context to provide boot services to Windows Boot Manager. Everything works fine on first boot and reboot but following list of devices don't show up on Windows boot with HV:

These devices do show up when I boot Windows naively. Any idea what these devices are and what are they supposed to do?


Please note that UEFI instance that runs under guest context is stock UEFI with minor modifications to run inside VM. It does NOT contain any signatures from Microsoft or Manufacturers/OEMs.

Microsoft Zune Firmware Update 1.3 Released

Microsoft has released firmware 1.3 for its Zune media player. The new firmware improves device and software reliability, such as device detection and synchronization. The new firmware also corrects a skipping problem with content downloaded from the Zune Marketplace as well as the FM tuner which no longer drains the battery when running in sleep mode. Zune users can update their devices from within the Zune software package.

System Firmware in Device Manager

I'm not used to using the board. Also, forgive me if the question was already asked, but I had not find anything on it. My driver for System Firmware listed under the Device Manager is version 10.0.17134.1 (21/6/2006). Someone brought to my attention that
there should have been an update to 2016 version. However, I am unable to update the driver, both automatically and manually using the device manager. Even electing for receiving updates for other Microsoft products using the Windows Update seems to not flag
the Firmware's version.

My question is, is the System Firmware update critical? If so, is there any way for me to manually do it since the system seems to not detecting it as an issue.

Attempts to install the UEFI firmware through the Surface Installer and manually in the device manager have installed the driver but the firmware does not install upon restarting. After restarting twice, the driver reports that it is a different version than firmware on the device and stops presenting an option to restart.

Installing Surface Pro Firmware with WinPE on a USB drive also does not result in the UEFI firmware being installed, though another firmware update successfully applied via this process the first time the device rebooted from WinPE.

The driver can be rolled back to the version which matches the actual version of the firmware.

Searches on other forums suggest that when this occurs, that the device is defective and needs to be replaced by Microsoft.
