  1. What to do if an update "bricks" your system

The problem of updates rendering Windows 10 computers non-functional is becoming widespread.

It is important that everyone have a Windows 10 installation disk in case this happens.

    1. Boot from DVD, select Repair, and then Command Prompt.

    2. Copy the entire Windows drive usually C to a backup device, using the xfile command line application.

    3. Reboot again using DVD, select Repair, and then click on Repair. Hope for the best.

    4. If it does not repair properly, boot again from DVD and install. Your personal files are on the backup drive.

    5. Back up your entire Windows drive as a system image backup once per week.

I was an application software engineer on Digital VMS, the predecessor of Windows. It's still VMS underneath.

  2. gpu bios update failed, gpu bricked

I would suggest a cheap pci card and ensure you use the correct path where the bricked card is so you dont accidentally flash the pci card

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond What to do if an update "bricks" your system :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
