Windows 10: what windows 10 version would be in retail stores today?

Totally agree, and I stand corrected. It does get confusing, edition ? version?

 

I pretty well have the same thoughts. Nice and clean, but soon outdated. If I had one, the case would come off at some point, to see if I could un write protect it.

 

Well i guess it depends on how well the store knows it's inventory. When they receive a product it is the most current and the biggest factor is how long it sits in the retailer's inventory. One think is it won't be anything like Windows 7 which can take hours to update.

 

Actually a very sensible question - it simply depends on age of stock in store.

well i sometimes i compare it to sp so for me 1607 Anniversary Update would be sp1, 1703 (Creators Update) would be sp2 etc...

 

Well that would be very confusing. I would rather use SP1..n for the cumulative updates that are released, if you need some versioning. But even that would be confusing. A SP is just a collection of the latest fixes to the OS, just like the CUs are for Windows 10. Only difference is that CUs are relased very often while the older SP release cycle was really slow.

 

Why would vendors be selling outdated software? When new versions come out, the vendor has to remove all old stock to be sent back to be destroyed, when a new version comes out. Used to be that they would destroy the old copies in store after written off from inventory and tossed into the crusher for the dumpster.
