  1. What's a "tenant" in Microsoft error messages?

If I try to collaborate with a classmate on Microsoft Whiteboard, he gets the following error message:

Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application '95de633a-083e-42f5-b444-a4295d8e9314' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.

If I browse to the link I sent the classmate, I get the same mysterious error message. I have no idea what it means or why Microsoft thought anyone would know what it means. As a result, I don't know which section of the community to post this question to. I'll start with the Network section.

My classmates and I are all using personal Microsoft accounts. I've tried Microsoft tech support, so called "Answer.," Ha. So far it's been a waste of time, but I haven't given up yet.

I'd sure appreciate some useful information on what this error message means for a start. And if anyone knows how to correct the situation, that would be even better.

    :)

  2. User account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft'???

I was trying to read an article from off of MSN, when I hit the link, it required me to enter my Microsoft account again, then it gave me this error message:

Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft' and cannot access the application '3f754e00-1ab5-44d6-87f9-c62e4216cc25' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.

What?! This IS my Microsoft account, that I use to log into my Windows 10 machine at home. The one I've used for many YEARS. How in heck could it "not exist in tenant 'Microsoft'"?

  3. Windows Update Error Message 0x80070543

Ya Ya Ya, there's over a hundred threads like this, ...

Anyway, started getting this error message a few days ago, and done a lot of searching on this error message, apparently it's not, uncommon.

In particular, the (currently) 4 updates that are being affected are:
    • Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3173428) - Error 0x80070543
    • Security Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3172729) - Error 0x80070543
    • Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3174060) - Error 0x80070543
    • Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3176493) - Error 0x80070543

The actions I've taken to date are:
    1. Uninstalled firewall program (comodo)
    2. Uninstalled anti-virus (Avast)
    3. Reset the windows update catalog on local machine.

So the above errors are with the above done.

What other steps should I be taking to resolve the issue?

Below is notations for when I actually add to this thread.

    1. Attempted to use the troubleshooter, no dice.
