Surface Hub 2’s light, sleek and intelligent design starts to ship in Q2 2019

Surface Hub 2 enables the power of collaborative work, allowing businesses to unlock the full potential of their greatest resource – people. As work changes – thanks to the ongoing digital revolution and a shift to non-traditional work spaces – fostering a team-based collaborative culture and spaces designed to enhance productivity and creativity are critical to businesses’ success. 48% of executives recognize the importance of collaboration and are modernizing their workplaces and systems to attract and retain the next generation of talent.

Surface Hub 2 represents the culmination of years of listening to our customers to better understand their needs. Often to better compete, these businesses must modernize their workplaces and systems to attract the best of the next generation.

People loved the original Surface Hub because it brought people together to work and create, but they also asked us for a more beautiful screen, something easier to install and transport, and more seamless integration of software and apps. We’ve taken that feedback to heart and used it to work across Microsoft to transform the creation process for Surface Hub 2 and our two new offerings in the Surface Hub family – Surface Hub 2S and Surface Hub 2X. Today we’re pumped to share more about these incredible collaboration devices.

Lighter, sleeker, and easier to use

We’ve learned a lot from our Surface fans who have been vocal in their appreciation for our meticulously designed products, attention to detail, brilliant touch displays, and cohesive experiences across not only modes of input like Surface Pen, but also across hardware and software. Surface Hub 2 is gorgeous – lighter, sleeker, and more intuitive than its predecessor, all while being as easy to install as putting a TV on a wall. Paired with elegant mobile stands from our partner Steelcase, Surface Hub 2 can be moved around the room with ease and anchored to a spot with a simple tap of your foot, providing the kind of freedom that’s never been seen in collaborative workspaces before. Now you can have a meeting wherever you choose, helping shift meetings from being passive to active, helping people better engage, create better ideas and drive better business outcomes.

We all remember how we felt when we received our first laptop. For the first time we weren’t tethered to our offices or the computer in our parent’s kitchen. We were free to go where we wanted, write our ideas down whenever and wherever inspiration struck, go write a paper in a coffee shop or create a presentation from the couch while watching our favorite show. Surface Hub 2 brings freedom not just to large screen devices, but also the collaborative process.

Collaborate across the world

In addition to having the convenience of being able to create an anytime, anywhere collaboration space with the transportable Surface Hub 2 stand you can effectively meet with teams from all over the world. If your colleague is hundreds or even thousands of miles away from you, they will feel like they’re in the same room with Surface Hub 2. Meetings sound and look crystal clear in Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business with our improved microphones, speakers, 4K camera, and true to scale video calling.

Intuitive experiences to make your team more productive

Surface Hub 2 seamlessly integrates intuitive hardware, software, and modes of interaction to help people get in and stay in their flow. With the new Microsoft Whiteboard app, amazing features designed for large touch screens make you feel like you’re at a real whiteboard, but with the added benefit of intelligent ink, the ability to find people, Bing search built in, image stacks, and more. Surface Hub 2 provides a robust whiteboard experience, but your whiteboard can be shared across Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices, so you can jump back into the same brainstorm session anytime, anywhere, from any device.

Surface Hub 2S

Since we previewed Surface Hub 2 in May, we’ve been humbled by the positive feedback we’ve received from the ecosystem. Current and future Surface Hub customers see the promise of Surface Hub 2 and demand for the device is real, which is why we’re so excited to share that we will begin to ship Surface Hub 2S in Q2 2019!

Surface Hub 2S was built for customers who have told us they still want the original Surface Hub experience that they know and have built for, but in a lighter, thinner, more vibrant design. With Surface Hub 2S customers will be able to deploy either an on-premise or hybrid environment and keep the software experiences that they have standardized on with the original Surface Hub. Businesses can also now continue to use Skype for Business on their Surface Hub 2S or deploy the latest version of Microsoft Teams.

Thoughtfully Composed

Looking forward to 2020, we will release updates to the Surface Hub family to enable customers to update to Surface Hub 2X. This includes the ability to tile, rotate, and enable multi user log in. This simple update is enabled by our design of removable processor cartridges, in an easily accessible hardware chassis on the back of the Surface Hub 2. This processor cartridge can be removed, upgraded and serviced over time. The cartridge is what will enable customers to make the switch to the Microsoft 365 powered Surface Hub 2X in 2020.

Introducing new A Surface Hub Tour app

We are introducing A Surface Hub Tour, a fun and engaging app optimized for Surface Hub now available from the Windows Store. The A Surface Hub Tour app is an easy-to-follow app to familiarize yourself with the Surface Hub's features and how you can get the most out of them through a hands-on, step-by-step, fun experience. We've named it A Surface Hub Tour to ensure that it sits right at the top of your Surface Hub's app list, easy to find and launch for both you and your users. Make it available for your users to open and explore to enable them to quickly and easily learn how their Surface Hub does much more than just providing a large screen for projection and presentations.

Surface Hub is an all-in-one collaboration device built with integrated features that make not just presenting, but sharing, collaborating and brainstorming easy, secure, and productive. A Surface Hub Tour demonstrates these capabilities in a game-like format that can be explored at your own pace, demonstrating how to get the most from Surface Hub's most compelling features, like Whiteboard, Skype for Business, Office 365, Connect, and of course, several options to give us feedback to improve.

Configure one of the new amazing wallpapers included with the app and selectable from your Surface Hub settings to direct your users to the A Surface Hub Tour learning experience, presenting them with an invitation Come and Explore the Surface Hub by launching the app. Once in the app, you'll be prompted to choose an avatar, and then select from a list of lessons, or worlds. You can follow the recommended sequence, or explore the worlds at your own pace and in your own order. You can also sign-in to save your avatar, prizes, progress and your favorite features. In each world your avatar will participate and guide you in short exercises that demonstrate the Surface Hub's capabilities. At the completion of each world, your avatar will earn a surprise to celebrate!

Meet Surface Hub 2

A new culture of work is emerging. One where unlocking the power of the team has never been more important. I see it with our team daily. People coming together, creating together. Making products stronger through collaboration, whether they’re in the same room or separated by thousands of miles.

Surface Hub 2 was designed from the ground up to be used by teams – to get people out of their seats, to connect and ideate, regardless of location. The new Surface Hub 2 is sleeker, more agile and more affordable to fit any workspace or work style. The gorgeous 4K+ 50.5” multi-touch display creates an inviting canvas to co-create, harnessing the power of Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, Office 365, Windows 10 and the intelligent cloud. The 4K cameras that rotate with the device, integrated speakers and far field mic arrays allow everyone in the meeting to feel as if they are right in the room with the rest of the group, while our standard Surface 3×2 aspect ratio means everyone has more usable space to create and collaborate.

Perfect for any space

Surface Hub 2 scales and adapts to your space through tiling up to 4 screens together in portrait or landscape view. Dynamic rotation allows you to use the best orientation for your content to help people work in the way that best suits them and the people they are collaborating with. It is also significantly easier to move around your workspaces than its predecessor. We’ve teamed up with workplace expert Steelcase to create a system of rolling stands and easy-to-use mounts to help Surface Hub 2 customers be truly mobile, gain a new perspective and capture their ideas wherever they do their best work.

The magic of tiling

Tiling is one of my favorite features on Surface Hub 2. Seeing four of the beautiful Surface Hub 2s lined up together has undeniable visual effect and will have a profound impact on what groups can accomplish together, allowing users to display multiple pieces of content side-by-side. Imagine how much your team could get done being able to work simultaneously across Microsoft Whiteboard, PowerBI, PowerPoint, and a full view video call.

Move beyond meetings, to real-time teamwork

We’re passionate about creating experiences that allow the technology to fade into the background, so people and teams can be as productive and creative as possible. The original Surface Hub advanced this mission, making it possible to join a meeting or open a whiteboard with one touch. Now Surface Hub 2 takes it even further with multi-user sign in.

This feature is a truly magical experience. Using multi-user sign in, multiple people can authenticate in the same Surface Hub 2 workspace, allowing them to simultaneously access their documents and ideas, merging them with the ideas of their teammates – and making collaboration as natural as meeting at a whiteboard.

Introducing Microsoft Surface Hub

One of the new pieces of hardware unveiled by Microsoft at its Windows 10 event on Wednesday was its Surface Hub, a TV workspace with pen input. And while the company has already started promoting its functionalities, we’re just starting to learn what the device features under the hood.

Microsoft designed two Surface Hub models: a 55- and 84-inch version, both of which are supposed to enhance a team’s ability to communicate, collaborate and share their ideas. Microsoft showed off how the device works on stage,but here are some of the tech specs:

55-inch display at 1080p or 84-inch at 4K

Displays locked at 120 HZ for no-lag writing

Optically bounded displays for extra clarity (as on the Surface Pro)

Supports up to 100 simultaneous touch points

Supports up to 3 pens simultaneously

Powered by Intel Core CPUs

2 x 1080p cameras and a mic array

HDMI, Miracast, NFC, Bluetooth, USB ports

Powered by a lightweight version of Windows 10

Of course, this isn’t the full list of specs and features, as Microsoft hasn’t shared the final details about Surface Hub. We expect to see a few more differences between the two versions of the device before it finally reaches market.
