    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR 0x00000124 [hal.dll] [ntoskrnl.exe]

My desktop started running into issues four days ago. Unfortunately, the pc has only successfully created 1 dump file out of ~20 attempts, it hangs while creating it at 20%. The first two events were freezes only and occurred while gaming (PUBG). The screen froze in place with a loud constant audio buzz - forcing me to hard reset the pc. From then on the computer would bsod (all were WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR I believe) mostly while gaming (once an hour) but even on desktop (once every 3-4 hours). After about the 12th bsod, crashes rapidly started occurring more frequently and I couldn't boot into windows for more than a few minutes. As result, I reformatted my PC yesterday and thankfully the bsods are occurring less frequently for now (only once while not gaming and every 2 hours while gaming).

I have been reading the forums and feel comfortable and willing to do whatever is asked of me. I will be back in 15 hours with the following 4 days off of work, fully available to knock out whatever is requested of me. I have already posted my DM log file and dump file below and will use this as an opportunity to run a mem86+ test. I truly appreciate any help that is offered. Thank you!

  2. BSOD w/ a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR after building a new PC with the hard-drive from my old PC.

The error code is 0x00000124 and it appears to be caused by hal.dll(+3267f) and ntoskrnl.exe(+226800).

Here's a google drive link to the minidump file: 112317-27734-01.dmp

    Anyone think they could help?

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR 0x00000124 [hal.dll] [ntoskrnl.exe]

    Hi sourpatch ,

    Welcome to the BSOD forum.
BSOD are caused by misbehaving hardware or software drivers or malfunctioning hardware.
The WHEA 0x124 error is typically hardware so testing includes CPU, GPU, Driver, RAM.
The bugcheck 141 was a misbehaving hardware driver.

For all tests please make sure to post images into the thread.
If there is any difficulty posting images please post one drive or drop box share links.

First replace the AMD graphics driver:
    Perform the following steps:
    1) Uninstall everything AMD using Display driver uninstaller and install new drivers from the Asus or the AMD website.
    2) The Asus web site is preferred.
    3) Enter the computer's serial or product number and the operating system to view available drivers.
    4) If you use the AMD web site be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the graphics driver.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    4) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting.

    5) Sometimes there are problems in the bios that produce bsod.

The BIOS: Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 2104, 8/13/2013

    6) Please check to see if this is the most up to date version.

    7) To ensure that there are no improper bios settings please reset the bios.

    8) Sometimes there can be failure to boot after resetting the bios.

    9) So please make sure your files are backed up.

    10) Please make a backup image with Macrium:

    12) When testing for WHEA hardware errors we need to systematically check CPU, GPU, memory and drive.

Once the bios is reset and there is no overclocking:

    15) Record maximum temperatures and duration of testing.
Aim for > 3 hours testing and abort if you encounter any problems as per the link.

    16) Please use the Microsoft snipping tool to post images into the thread.

    17) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.

Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

The testing is done not by time but by passes.

    The more passes the better.

There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.

A false negative is a pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.

There is 8 GB of RAM on the computer.

    Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM

Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.

Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.

Again the more passes the better.

If both RAM pass when tested 1 at a time after failing when tested together test the next DIMM with 1 RAM module for 8 or more passes. This will help to differentiate malfunctioning RAM from malfunctioning DIMM /Motherboard.

    24) And please make sure that you use the Microsoft snipping tool to post images of each into the thread.

    Hello zbook and thank you!

1). My system successfully created another dump file (usually it would hang): Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online.

2). I uninstalled all AMD related software and gpu drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller. I was able to reinstall just the AMD gpu driver by extracting the software package and obtaining the driver folder with 7zip.

3). I ran both sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. No errors found on either scan. I could not post a picture because the command prompt window would immediately close after the test was finished.

4). Bios is up to date.

    5). I reset Bios.

6). Prime95 would freeze my pc everytime between 20-30min into test. CPU temps topped out at 70c average.

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR 0x00000124 [hal.dll] [ntoskrnl.exe] [IMG]

7). Ran memtest86+ for 15 hours and made 11 passes with no errors.

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR 0x00000124 [hal.dll] [ntoskrnl.exe] [IMG]

8). HD Sentinel results were good:

11). I will be running FurMark tonight and will monitor temps.

12). Updated my personal Ten Forums System Specs as well.

    Nice progress.

Please use the DM log collector to post a new zip for this latest BSOD.

When there are BSOD please use the DM log collector to post new zips.

For HD Sentinel (paid or 30 day trial edition) please click on disk and run the surface test for each drive.
This may take many hours and can be run overnight.
    Post images into the thread.

The commands run using administrative command prompt should not automatically close the box. The tests can be run again as they are relatively short. Please attempt to run them again and report the results using the right click method. Alternatively you can use a camera or smart phone camera to take pictures and post the result into the thread.

I ran into an issue today that I have never encountered. After restarting my pc and booting into windows, the network system tray icon had the red x through it, indicating I wasn't connected to the internet. I tried the "troubleshoot problems" option and received the following message. I then looked in device manager and there were a bunch of WAN miniports under Network adapters. After restarting windows again, everything returned to normal.

For the Intel driver > right click > left click properties > left click driver tab > left click driver details > post an image into the thread.

If it matched this driver then update the driver using the Asus website as the source of a new driver. If it is not available on the Asus website then use the Intel website as the source of the replacement driver.
