Windows sound issue: no playback devices, drivers good!

If you haven't yet, maybe try this:

Boot into safe mode and go into device manager. Right click on and uninstall each of the following (If present):
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Drivers
Media Control Devices
Audio Controller
Video Codecs
and anything else that my be listed under sound devices. Also click on "View", "Show hidden devices" and see if there are any exclamation marks. If so, uninstall them also and then reboot into normal mode. Windows should detect the devices and automatically reinstall them.

I'd try that before reinstalling just for grins. Reinstalling as you know is a pain in the a*s!*Smile

While Windows 10 in S mode is designed to provide a more secure experience, there is no 100% guarantee that a device running Windows 10 in S mode will never get a virus, trojan, or other malware, even from emails. However, Windows 10 in S mode does make it more difficult to get your computer infected because it won't allow you to download any apps from outside of the Microsoft store app, hence any .exe excutable files cannot run outside of the store app This restriction helps protect users by allowing only verified applications to run, significantly reducing the risk of malware and other security threats.

It is still important to practice safe computing habits, such as not opening suspicious emails or downloading files from untrusted sources, to further reduce the risk of malware infections.
