  1. When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot

First , I download a iso file from the Microsoft website. But when I open it , the computer automatically reboot . After turn off the automatically reboot option in the setting, whenever I click the setup.exe , the computer will freeze. So I try other .exe file , but all others a working. And I try to turn off the anti-virus software, but the problem still happened. However , when I try to open the setup.exe in safe mode , it can open. I don’t know what’s wrong with my computer.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

[Tip] Automatic Login to Windows and Instantly lock the computer.

Problem: You like to leave XYZ program running 24/7, but XYZ program only starts when you log into the computer(XYZ can be whatever program you want). So when automatic updates hit and auto-restart your computer, the XYZ program doesn't start back up. You could not put a password on your user account, so the computer automatically logs onto your user account when it reboots, but that is insecure, and if you have nosy roommates/children/super intelligent monkeys, if there is no password they might get on your computer and find your huge collection of por...legally obtained songs...

Solution: Set Windows to automatically log into a password protected user account, and then instantly lock the computer.*Rockout :rockout: Here's how:

    • I'm going to assume you already have your user account password protected. If not, setup a password for your user account now...I'll wait...ok, moving on.
    • In the Run dialog type "control userpasswords2" without quotes. Then press OK.

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin1.png
    • In the User Accounts window uncheck the box for "Users must enter a password to use this computer." Press OK.

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin2.png
    • In the Automatically Log On window enter your username and password. Press OK.

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin3.png
    • Open Notepad and type "rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkstation" without quotes.

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin4.png
    • Save the text document as lock.bat. Make sure you change Save as type: from *.txt to *.*!

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin5.png
    • Drag lock.bat into your Startup folder.

When Click the Windows 10 setup.exe file , the computer will automatically reboot autologin6.png
That is it. Now when the computer is rebooted it will automatically log in to your account, load any programs you want started, and lock the computer so a password is still required to use it.*Toast :toast:

    A few notes:
    • If you change the password for your user account, it will break the auto login. You will have to go back into control userpasswords2 and re-enter your login information.
    • This should work with any recent version of Windows, I've tested it back to at least XP. You shouldn't be using anything older than that anyway.
    • I've tested this with Win7 and Vista Home Premium and up. It should work on Home Basic and Starter as well, and it should work on XP Home, but I haven't tested this personally. The lower versions of Windows might not have the Control Userpasswords2 ability.
    • This works with Server versions of Windows also.

Some (not all) setup EXE files do not execute.

Many recent EXE application set up files will not run. This presumably started a few days ago, but I then thought it was confined to just one setup EXE (Ultimaker_Cura-4.10.0-amd64.exe). This morning I discovered it's many (but NOT all) of them. The inactive ones seem to be the most recent (4-6 weeks). And if there's an MSI alternative, that does not run either.

As far as I can tell all program EXEs do open correctly. It's just the setup EXEs that have this weird problem.

Examples of setup files that do NOT run:
    Everything-1.4.1.1009.x64-Setup.exe
    OfficeSetup.exe
    iview458_setup.exe
    Google_Chrome_(32bit)_v91.0.4472.101.exe
    Ultimaker_Cura-4.9.1-amd64.exe

Examples of setup files that DO run:
    VLC_Media_Player_(64bit)_v3.0.14.exe
    Skype_v8.72.0.94.exe
    NotePad_(64bit)_v7.9.5.exe
    MediaMonkey_v5.0.0.2338.exe
    Everything_(64bit)_v1.4.1.1003.exe
    FastStone_Capture_v9.5.exe

Tried many things, including the familiar sfc /scannow, DISM ScanHealth, and various suggestions such as all those here:
Fix: .Exe files not opening in Windows 10

As many do run that was, of course, desperation flying in the face of logic, and none have fixed it.

I'm now pondering the fact that the failures appear to be mainly the more recent files downloaded. Could it be down to a recent Win 10 update I wonder?

This is Win 10 Pro Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.1110).

I finally found the cause of the setup EXEs failing.
Tried downloading with Chrome instead of Waterfox. Got a 'Blocked' message. That was the clue to go hunting in the Win 10 Internet security settings. Enabled an obscure option (that perhaps had somehow become disabled) and after download they now execute.
