    When did Windows's Notepad.exe start to open Unix text files properly?


    I'm on Windows 10, and I just opened a Unix text file using Notepad.exe. Unlike in years past, the text file displays properly instead of joining all the lines into one because different characters used to signify the end-of-line.

    When did this start happening?

    Can this be relied on for all Windows versions?

    .exe files opening in notepad

    Hey, I was just trying to download a .exe file the other day, and accidentally clicked an option that made it so that every file I now open is opened with notepad. If there is any way to fix this, I would be very happy. Thanks.

    Opening certain .exe files

    Changing a text file extension to exe doesn't make it an exe file. Yes, first you write source code, then compile it to produce the exe file. Going the other way requires a decompiler and won't be able to produce the original source code.
