When double clicking on a file in file explorer the associated app opens but the file does...

When I double click on a file in the file explorer the associated program opens as it should but the file does not open. If I double click on the file a second time without closing the associated program the file will then open.

  2. Double-clicking on a folder in File Explorer gives an error message.

When I double-click on a folder in File Explorer (Windows 10), I get an error message: "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page". When I click the "Open" button on the top center of the ribbon, I get the same message. When I right-click on the folder, I see "Explore" on the top of the list, with "Open" beneath it. The Explore command seems to do no good, I have to click on Open to open the folder. Is there any way I can modify this so that when I double-click on a folder in File Explorer, it opens?

As a side note, when I right click a folder on the desktop screen, it does open.

  3. When clicking the files getting error that the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.

    Hello,

I understand that when you try to open the file, you are prompted that the files does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. We will certainly help you.

    • What file are you trying to open?
This issue is caused if the file is not associated with any of the application or program to open it.

If those files are the pictures as I can see that you are trying to access the picture folder. I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if the issue resolves.

    • Right click on the file and select Open with.
    • Select Photo App or Photo Gallery.
    • Double click and check if you are able to open that file.
Keep us posted if the issue is resolved. We are glad to help you.

Opening files from File Explorer and File Association not working

Hi, I'm having some problems with opening some filetypes in File Explorer. There are a few different cases which has made it hard to narrow down exactly where my problem is, and my Google-fu is failing me.

If a filetype is not associated with any program, double clicking or "right click > open " either doesn't do anything, or comes up with a message telling me to associate a program with the file. If I go into "control panel > default programs > associate
a file type... " and then find the filetype and click on "change program", no window pops up to let me select a program.

In addition to the unassociated files not working, with files with a known association, double clicking only works if their is only one program associated with the filetype. If there are multiple programs, it will not choose the default program but will
do nothing, I must choose a program from the open with context menu manually to open them. Additionally, the "open with > choose another app" button does nothing.

If anyone has any suggestions to fix the whole thing or any individual part, thanks in advance.

    Cheers, Michael.
