  2. This has already happened. My ISP "COX", when net-neutrality was implemented, they implemented caps on all of their speed levels (Max GB downloads). If you need more, yes you should pay for it. If your a gamer or love to watch 4k HD movies day and night, why should I have to pay for infrastructure updates (Because you are hogging the bandwidth). since I don't use that volume of band width.

    Whats fair should be fair.

Don’t they charge more for exceeding the cap? Don’t they charge more for higher cap levels?

As far as I know, seems to happen with some companies there in the US, but what net neutrality means is that, adding to having to pay more for caps, now you will have to pay extra to watch youtube, netflix, you news provider, everything else that is not included in your ISP... they can even try censor the sites and force you into their ecosystem and never leave.

So, cap extra fee + sites extra fee + whatever they may want to charge you. You can't pay? bad luck, you are stuck. Or... maybe they wanna block everything that is not in their ecosystem, charge for ones they can't deploy (Netflix, or Twitter, or facebook) and force you being stuck in a closed enviornment, in where you can't leave, or see anything that is not previously fixed, censored and tailored according to their needs, never yours.

  7. Yes they are imposing CAPS

But the original law did not stop them from doing it. I have had caps on my internet now for 2 years. My ISP started it shortly after they pass the original law. It didn't stop any ISP from setting caps. My issue is the law was flawed and meant nothing.

Here in the Uk I can think of only one major ISP that Caps internet access mainly because the majority don't cap these days and they are afraid that they'll lose customers.

I do have a cap on my Phone Plan, 30GB which I rarely go anywhere near, as most of the time my phone is connected to my home plan via WiFi or some free Hotspot, Even available on Trains and Buses, and Councils are providing free access in City centres

You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what it is. They want to "bundle" sites/domains just like cable TV channel bundles. The larger the bundle, the more the cost. Of course the basic bundles they offer will be in their best interest and their interests are in advertisement. That's why they purchase ad companies.

vram mentioned they should bar any ISP from also owning a media company. It’s a conflict of interest. Well, they shouldn't be permitted to own ad companies either. He also mentioned that they should be just dumb pipes, nothing more. Classify ISPs as a utility like a utility company. My natural gas company doesn't mix propane in with the gas I buy, nor do they cap. However utilities got away with ratios. The more we use the more the cost per unit they charge or they have demand-times added costs. What a crock!

It should be a dumb pipe and pay for what we use no matter how much we use. One cost per MB. I can understand charging for more bandwidth/speed. That takes a higher grade of infrastructure including equipment.

BTW, so far as I know, MS sold off their ad company a while back. They must realize that it is a conflict of interest.

Unfortunately, although illegal, the big four here are in cahoots. Corporate America bought our democratic freedoms a long time ago. *sarc

Net Neutrality Is about forcing content providers such as Netflix to pay extra for the bandwidth used to provide content to their subscribers. It's not about Capping your usage as some ISPs already do.

  11. Competition isn't a solution as most economic sectors are run by cartels.
Any new players who upset the status quo will be crushed by the existing "top dogs". *Sad

Cartels are supposed to be illegal, but when was the last time that dozens of executives were arrested, tried, imprisoned and had all of their assets confiscated?

  12. So the ISP could collect $ from the end user in the form of CAP's and also collect more $ from the suppliers. And no where does it state who the suppliers are. Is it only streaming sites, or do they include Ford Motor co, Appliance parts whse etc. Its not right.
