    When i close a game and come back to desktop, HDR is dimmed down


    When i play a game with Steam, then i log off the game, i come back to a greyed out screen. I have to turn HDR off then back on to fix this issue. If i open a Windows Edge window, it will flicker back onto bright when passing over the adress bar then back to greyed out or dimmed. This is very anoying.Im on Windows 11.Thanks for your help on solving this!

    Yes clean install

    Windows will leave HDR ON / Screen is dim after gaming hardly see anything.

    AUTO HRD disabled.
    Genuine HDR game.

    • Yes, this problem occurs only when HDR enabled and when application actually supports HDR. I haven't noticed same issue with AutoHDR and games that don't support HDR.
    • 22H2 (22621.1194) - but I noticed this problem first quite a long time ago, and this problem persisted thought multiple windows updates, multiple drivers updates etc. Games - I have only two games which support HDR in my playlist - Read Dead Redemption 2 and War Thunder.
    • No, full-screen is not affected.
    • Intel i9-12900k, RTX 3080.
    • Windows allows to create multiple desktops. I can create a separate desktop and drag the game there. With setting"Show all open windows when I press Alt+Tab / On the task bar, show all the open windows - On all desktops" I don't even need to switch the desktop in order to alt-tab from the game to other application like browser.
    I've seen this issue on fresh installed system and recently reinstalled OS too, so driver reinstall would not help.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    The Xbox feature in Windows 11 will automatically enable HDR (provided you have a graphics card with minimum performance requirements). In fact, Battlefield 1 and 5 games support HDR, so if your PC has HDR enabled automatically, the game will be enabled by default.

    Given your situation so far, I would suggest you check here to calibrate your monitor's HDR functionality and troubleshoote that aspect.

    Then turn on the "Auto HDR" setting by following these steps:

    1. Select the Start button, then enter settings.select Settings > System > Display.
    2. If you have multiple displays, select your HDR-capable display at the top.
    3. Turn on Use HDR, then select More options.
    4. Turn on Auto HDR.
    5. Go back to the game to see if HDR is enabled.
    On the other hand, go to Start - Settings -Windows Update - Update History to see what updates have been installed recently and I can help you check the update history to see if any recent updates have reported issues with HDR.
