    E50 Change Font Size

    Hi hi there,

    I think I found out how to handle the Chinese problem. it is possible to view Chinese words by adding new character sets without reflashing the firmware. Due to the copyright of the fonts files. I cannot just put the modified fonts files here for sharing but
    you can MAKE one for yourself.

    I think this manner also works for all non-English users. It works for my N80/E70

    For S60 devices:

    The default fonts are stored in drive z: (ROM) which is not allowed to be modified.

    s60j.ccc -- Japanese

    s60sc.ccc

    s60snr.ttf

    s60snrb.ttf

    s60ssb.ttf

    s60tchk.ccc -- Chinese

    s60tsb.ttf

    s60zdigi.ttf

    (NOTE: These file names are different from those which Mr./Ms. osamede provided in this thread)

    It seems that Chinese fonts do exist. However, you can enable these default Chinese (or Japanese) fonts ONLY when you change the device language setting to Chinese (or Japanese). That is, the Chinese fonts are not loaded if you don’t switch your environment
    to Chinese.

    How if the Chinese/Japanese options do not appear in your device’s language list but you wanna view Chinese/Japanese? It often occurs when your device is “gray imported” or was bought abroad. You have only non-Chinese language settings but wanna read Chinese
    characters. If this is your situation, you can follow these steps to enable Chinese on your S60.

    1. You need a Chinese fonts file (check your C:\WINDOWS\fonts\). Pick up a smaller one.

    2. Download the software called FontCreator for modifying fonts information.

    3. Duplicate the fonts file you just picked up into 3 copies and use FontCreator to modify the font information.

    3.1 File name (duplicate 1):

    s60snr.ttf

    Affected Area (including but not limited):

    For regular application text(mostly), Short message title

    **Font information:

    (1)Font Family Name-->Series 60 Sans

    (2)Font Subfamily Name-->Regular

    (3)Unique Font Identifier-->Series 60 Sans Regular

    (4)Full font name-->Series 60 Sans Regular

    (5)Postscript name-->Series60Sans-Regular

    3.2 File name (duplicate 2):

    s60ssb.ttf

    Affected Area (including but not limited):

    For Application text, Short message text

    **Font information:

    (1)Font Family Name-->Series 60 Sans

    (2)Font Subfamily Name-->SemiBold

    (3)Unique Font Identifier-->Series 60 Sans SemiBold

    (4)Full font name-->Series 60 Sans SemiBold

    (5)Postscript name-->Series60Sans-SemiBold

    3.3 File name (duplicate 3):

    s60tsb.ttf

    Affected Area(including but not limited):

    Menu/Option item, Application name(title), Alert message

    **Font information:

    (1)Font Family Name-->Series 60 Sans TitleSmBd

    (2)Font Subfamily Name-->Regular

    (3)Unique Font Identifier-->Monotype - Series 60 Sans TitleSmBdz

    (4)Full font name-->Series 60 Sans TitleSmBd

    (5)Postscript name-->Series60SansTitleSmBd

    4. Put these 3 fonts files into your memory card ([SD card]:\resource\fonts). Generate this directory if you don’t have it. IMPORTANT.

    5. Reboot.

    6. If you are failed to change fonts, just remove those 3 files and reboot.

    There are some other default fonts files. For example, s60zdigi.ttf, however it is not really important cuz it is used for LCD digits appear in the screen saver.

    ------------------------------

    For emulator:

    These default fonts for S60 are stored at:

    [Installation_drive]:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\z\resource\fonts.

    1. Find the default fonts and back up them first.

    2. Please follow the steps above to make your own fonts files and then put them into emulator’s z_drive\resource\fonts.

    PS: ( IMPORTANT)

    1. The memory is rare and precious so please try to find the smallest fonts files to duplicate.

    2. If any one of your friends has any SonyEricssion’s device which is based on OS_S60 (e.g. P900). Borrow it from your friend. There is a good fonts file (both in size and quality). Again, I cannot share this fonts file here due to the copyright consideration.
