Windows 10: when i open an attachment it gets referred to word or a program i don't use

A day or so ago, when i clicked on an email attachment something is referring it to Word which I never usehow do i get rid of this setting. It would jut open normally before not with MS or Edge.i'm on chrome windows 1o please helpi think stupid chrome may have done this. i just want the pdf to open in my browser with this extra thing downloading. i think what i have attached is the new feature. how do i get rid of it or disable it.there is an icon in the upper fight hand corner that say recent downloads and if i click on it it opens. this was not there a few days ago.HELPthanks

Opening Word attachments to emails with Microsoft 10

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I cannot open Word documents attached to emails. I tried the suggestion of going to Control Panel, Office and doing an online repair, but the attachments still do not open. I am able to look at attachments to emails on my
Iphone, so I know there is no problems with the Word files being sent. This just started when I changed to Windows 10.

Any suggestions?

 

I am trying to email a word document to myself.

I would suggest you cancel everything open and start fresh using just these steps:

• Open your Mail app or website
• Click the New button and write a new email message with your address in the To line
• Click the Attachment paperclip button and select your Word file to attach
• Click Send
