Windows 10: When I plug in my flash drive it does not pop up anymore.

Hi.I am using a surface pro 7. My computer was able to recognize the drive perfectly until today. When I restarted it I plugged my flash drive in nothing popped up.At first, I thought that my USB connector was broken or damaged. I plugged an external mouse and an external keyboard to see if they would work on my computer. Both of them worked! I tried to restart the computer but when I restarted it, it showed an error saying that a system file was missing. Right now I am thinking of resetting my computer. please help.

USB drive is plugged in- no pop up on home screen

Okay! Thanks to all for the suggestions. Everything checked out that you guys had listed as possible causes. What fixed the problems was the reference to the Registry changes- the values were both wrong. I reset those, following the suggested settings,
restarted the PC, & Presto the pop up is now working when a new drive is plugged in! The drives all worked before, they just wouldn't show the pop up, so I would have to open This PC to open the files. Now it works the way the way Windows has for me since
the '80's. I don't know what Update screwed this Registry setting up, but I can't be the only one who's had this problem! Thanks again! L.P.

 

Windows Doesn't see a flash drive?

  Did you receive any error message?
  
• 
  Did you try plug in another flash drive?
  
• 
  Did the flash drive get recognized by the computer?
  

I suggest you to try plug in a different flash drive and check if you are able to format the drive.

I also suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices
troubleshooter.

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click on Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
• Check if issue persists.
