Windows 10: When I plug my audio jack into my PC, it is not showing up or popping up

Audio Jack input/output setting

Hi, this is just a small question regarding a specific audio setting. This setting was a pop-up for each time I plugged sth into the audio jack and it showed a list of devices that could be plugged into the jack e.g. Mic, Headphones, speakers, etc. I got an external mic but it won't use it and that setting definitely works because I used it before. Idk how to bring that setting back. If anyone knows how to open it id be very thankful.

 

How to change device when plugged into the audio jack?


Whenever I plugged in my earphones, the notification would pop saying "You just plugged a device into the audio jack" With this, a window would pop up saying what kind of device I had plugged in and would give out the options: headphones, earphones, headphones with microphone, etc.

I clicked on headphones with microphone and ticked the box "don't show this message again". But now, whenever I Skype with someone, they can hear the videos and music I'm listening too even with my earphones plugged in.

How do I change the device from headset with microphone to just earphones? How can I make this pop up window open up again whenever I plug something into the audio jack? How can I change the settings?

Does Windows log when you plug in / unplug an audio device from a 3.5mm jack?

When an audio device is plugged/unplugged from the 3.5mm jack, does Windows log that anywhere?

Not by default. You have to write an app to detect plug in/plug out. Note the jack has to support jack-presence detection.

You can extend the sample code to log to a file or create a custom user define event in the event log.

Suggestion:

• Add code to use your built in webcam to take a photo of the culprit.
