ASUSTOR Unveils New Apps and Enhancements

ASUSTOR Inc., a leading innovator and provider of network storage solutions, today announced the release of three new NAS Apps for its well-received AS 6 Series NAS devices. These new Apps consist of Symantec Backup Exec's RALUS, an acclaimed backup solution, Dropbox, a popular cloud storage and sync service and DVBLink TV Server, a digital television App. Additionally, two of ASUSTOR's existing Apps are being upgraded with advanced features and enhancements. Download Center now features the new and convenient Smart Download Folder function. Its mobile App, AiDownload, has added a push notification function and is now available for both iOS and Android. Not to be outdone, the Surveillance Center App now boasts added Daylight Saving Time adjustments along with full compatibility with Panasonic's BB and BL camera lines. The newly released Apps are summarized as follows:

• RALUS: RALUS is the remote agent used with Linux/Unix clients for Symantec's Backup Exec. After installing RALUS through App Central, users will be able to remotely backup and restore their NAS devices. RALUS effectively provides users with a complete disaster recovery solution.
• Dropbox: Dropbox provides users with a cloud storage and file syncing service. After installing this App, users will be able to sync files between Dropbox, their ASUSTOR NAS and their PC, which provides for convenient file storage and sharing. The Dropbox App also supports multiple users which means that all user accounts on the NAS will be able to use the service simultaneously.
• DVBLink TV Server: Once users install this App and a compatible TV tuner onto their NAS, they will be able to watch and record digital television programs. Digital TV content may be streamed to UPnP compatible devices and to mobile devices running iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Furthermore, with its complete electronic program guide listings, DVBLink TV Server will ensure that users never miss a moment of their favorite shows. DVBLink TV Server is compatible with DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 digital TV broadcast standards.

The newly updated Apps are summarized as follows:

• Download Center: The latest version of Download Center features the new Smart Download function. Users can upload their torrent files to a specified folder and then automatically have their NAS add the torrent as a download task and begin downloading. In addition to the AiDownload mobile App for iOS, AiDownload for Android can now be downloaded from Google Play. These new Apps include SABnzbdplus, Sick Beard, CouchPotato, Headphones, and Subsonic. All you have to do is add an .nzb file and SABnzbd takes over from there, where it will be automatically downloaded, verified, repaired, extracted and filed away with zero human interaction.
• Sick Beard: Sick Beard is a personal video recorder for newsgroup users. It watches for new episodes of your favorite shows and when they are posted it downloads them, sorts and renames them, and optionally generates metadata for them.
• CouchPotato: CouchPotato is an automatic NZB and torrent downloader. You can create a "want to watch" list and CouchPotato will search through multiple NZBs & Torrents sites, looking for the best possible match. Once a match is found it will send it to SABnzbd or download the file to a specified directory.
• Headphones: Headphones is a SABnzbd add-on that automates your music downloading. It allows you to import all your favorite artists from iTunes, and keep an eye out for any new albums they might be releasing.
• Subsonic: Subsonic is a free, web-based media streamer, providing ubiquitous access to the music on your ASUSTOR NAS. You can use it to listen to your own music, share music with friends and even stream to multiple player simultaneously.

 

Apple Mac App Store passes 100 Million Downloads

Cupertino-based Apple Inc. has just announced that its Mac-friendly app store has managed to surpass 100 million downloads in less than a year. Launched on January 6th (2011), the Mac App Store is accessible to Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Mac OS X Lion users, and offers thousands of free and paid apps covering Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity, Utilities and other categories. In contrast, the iOS-only App Store has over 500,000 apps and has surpassed 18 billion downloads.

"In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world."
