Windows 10: When I try to run an app from the icon on the task bar, nothing happens.

If I press control-alt-elete and then run the task manager that solves the problem for a few times and then stops again. How do I fix this . . . I have already ran a full virus and malware scan with multiple programs and SFC and DISM

After applying the november windows 10 home update three of my task bar icons have become blank sheets. The ones changed are edge, store and wunderlist. The remainder are fine. The icons of the three appear correct in the all apps list. I have tried
unpin and re-pin with no change. The three applications work correctly and start fine from the task bar. It is just hard to remember which application is which blank. Note this has happened on my hp laptop which was upgraded from windows 8.1, My desktop
which has windows 10 professional does not have the problem. It was upgraded from windows 7 professional.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

No Icons visible in task bar, Win 10

As you are facing issues with icons in the Task bar after November update, do let us know the following:

• Is this issue confined only with icons in the Task bar?
• What happens when you try to click on those icons?
• What exactly do you mean by: "they are there but not visible"?

Method 1: If you are referring to showing up of different icons in Task in System tray, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key from the Keyboard, type
  Turn system icons On or Off and select it.
• Try to turn on the icons that are visible.

Method 2:

Step 1: If not, I suggest you to place the computer in safe mode and check if the icons are visible to access.

If the issue still persists,

Step 2: This issue might have occurred due to corrupted or missing system files after the update. I suggest you to place the computer in normal mode and try to perform SFC scan.

Steps: Place the computer in normal mode.

• Press Windows + R keys to open
  Run command.
• Type msconfig and press
  Enter.
• In the System Configuration
  window, click on General tab.
• Select Start-up selection as Normal startup, click on Apply and Ok.
• Follow onscreen instructions.

Perform SFC scan, System File Checkeris a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Follow the below steps:

• Right click on the Start button, click on
  Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
  Enter.
• After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

What happened to my mail icon on the task bar?

Hi,

So this command successfully removed mail app. I rebooted and was able to download the mail app from the store, but problem remains. Pinning the mail app to my task bar results in an invisible icon.

I noticed when this problem first started (with Creator update), that the icon for mail was now missing from the icon folder in System32 files. Instead, the mail folder is associated with a blank page in my apps list. I tried changing the icon image to
another image, but it is still invisible on the task bar.
