When I try streaming video and then I get a mostly green picture that occasionally straightens out but then it goes back to garbage. I have an AMD with Radion HD graphics built in to the MoBo. I reverted back to W7 until I get this worked out. There is an EVGA GeForce GT610 cart for $47 on Amazon, do you think this would solve my problem?

  3. Windows 10 resolution problem

    Hi,

I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 last month. Everything is good except the resolution. I tried everything from changing the settings to resetting the computer, but the resolution is still low.

    Len,

A new card might solve the issue. I have an AMD APU in this laptop. There were issues with AMD right up to the Win10 release date, I think AMD released another package on 31 July.

Windows Update has applied at least two AMD packages on this box, while I did not experience the pixelation issue you described, things seem to be working well.

Before shelling out your hard earned cash, try a clean install and work through the issue - time is free *Wink
Make sure that Device installation settings are Yes, let Windows Update ...

Let WU apply all of the available updates before trying to troubleshoot the issue.

Either way, new GPU or existing GPU - your choice.
Members are here to help you work through the issue.

I prefer nVidia myself, just by seeing how many issues ATi/AMD has. nVidia drivers seem more robust though (although not without issues either). I think any videocard in a pcie slot is better than onboard video; sometimes not by a big stretch.
On topic: Try getting a newer nVidia card (Maxwell based). I could be wrong but that GT610 seems it's a Kepler one, right?

PS - That GT 610 card must be slow. Maybe enough for web browsing and such but you get what you pay for. *chuckle

Thank you both for your great answers. I will do a clean install on a new hard drive in that same computer. I have the W7 activation key, will that go OK?

I had the same problem. After a lot of swearing I gave up, figuring that if enough people complained, MS would fix it. A few days later I got a popup from Nvidia, my graphics-card vendor, providing a set of updated drivers for W10. Now everything works. If AMD hasn't done the same thing, you might want to bug them, because the culprit is clearly the drivers.

You won't need the W7 key for Win 10. If you have already activated 10 on your system for the free upgrade, you can activate it again on the same hardware. (I believe that using a new HD would not be regarded as new hardware. The motherboard, particularly its Ethernet controller, is the main thing.) You could even activate a clean install.

I'd try to get the Radeon drivers sorted before buying a new card.

The 610 is a rebranded Fermi series CPU:

If you want a more recent (Kepler) card, you'd need a 7XX series card.

The latest generation (9xx cards) is Maxwell, but there are no sub-$100US cards available in that family yet, as far as I know.

  9. If the upgrade is already activated, you do NOT need a key for a clean install. In fact, there are no keys for the upgrade/Clean install.

Win10 will activate using the key created, encrypted, and stored when the original OS was upgraded on the machine - cool, eh!
