Windows 10: When I use definder offline scan on Dell, it switches to Dell Recovery

I have a Dell inspiron 3520 running the latest update of windows10. I tried to run a defender offline scan & the pc switched to Dell recovery. What is going on?

I am using Windows 10 version 1809 on a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series laptop. I just want to do a full check of my computer with the offline scan, but the dell backup and recovery shows up and prevents the scanning. Is there anyway to work around with this?

 

Dell Backup and Recovery Manager does not recognize my Dell


After the upgrade to Win 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro, my Dell Backup and Recovery Manager gives me an error message basically saying it does not recognize my Dell [e5420 laptop]. Dell support suggested I contact Microsoft support as this new problem is due to the Win 10 upgrade. MS support suggested getting a product upgrade from Dell (I have the latest version!)

Anyone know what is going on? I reinstalled Dell System Detect, which appears to work fine, but still the Backup and Recovery Manager does not see a Dell product.
