Windows 10: when is offline file sync done between win10 and xp?

I have a Win98SE/XP dual-boot system that I use to share my old but functional printer using it's parallel port.I also have stored my resume on that system for the last 20-some years, along with offline copies of fanfics I download and gamefaqs from gamefaqs.com.I also have my more modern Win7 and Win10 computers sync these folders with offline files.However, these days for obvious reasons I don't often turn the XP computer on unless I intend to print, which isn't that often.Today I had to print a shipping label and had turned the computer on I hadn't logged in. Access issues with offline files can be due to the changes in the configuration of the device and/or the host/server. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

• If you're using the Windows Sync Center application to access/manage your offline files.
• If you're referring to the use of the OneDrive application.
• If your device is managed by a domain or an organization.
• The exact error messages that you're getting when accessing the files.

In the meantime, we'd recommend performing the following steps to verify the status of the offline file access on your device:

• Search and launch Control Panel using Cortana.
• In the Search Control Panel box, type offline.
• Under Sync Center, click Manage offline files.
• In the Offline Files pop-up window, check if its enabled.

This could be due to the incorrect caching set for the network folder. You may want to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

• Open Share Properties
  of the network folder and click on Advance sharing.
  
• Choose Caching and select
  No files or programs from the shared folder are available offline.
  
• Save the changes and reboot the machine to see if it works.

Offline files in Win10?

Hi - sorry for the delayed response to your reply.

I'm referring to the offline files capability manniongeo is talking about in his reply. I think it was called Client Side Caching in XP. It caches against NTFS file shares, and has been available in every version of Windows since some release of XP until
8.1. Under Win8, the functionality could be set up from the Sync Center control panel, but it was disabled under the Home version.
