When moving a large block of files 200 Gb from one drive to another, in Windows 11, the last "5 seconds" can take up to 30-45 minutes or more - in addition to the 3-4 hours to actually move the files. Why? does this happen Why estimate 5 seconds, then take way over 1/2 hour for an operation showing 99% complete?

Defrag: Move Large Files To End Of Drive?

Hey guys, I saw Defraggler has the option to move large files to the end of the drive, I picked movies (MKV/MP4 etc.)

Is it good to move these large files to the end of the drive? I'm assuming it's for less used files so it doesn't read them as fast or something?

Should I do this or just put it back to normal?

 

Duel drive system with 120 GB SSD and 1 TeraBit Hard Drive

I have a I7 core 120 GB SSD and 1 Terabit Hard Drive with Windows 10 and Office 2016 installed, with my large email ost files my SSD drive is down to about 11 GB free and I have already moved all documents, photos, music and anything else I can think of
the D: hard drive. Any suggestions on what Windows or Office Files can be moved to the D: drive in the same computer. Please note that it does not appear that any attempt to move the Outlook .ost file is allowed and no move button or change in the file location
has worked.

 

Defrag: Move Large Files To End Of Drive?

Im pretty sure, if im not mistaken that large files should be moved to the outside so that they are read *faster* not slower. This is because of the nature of the spinning disk is that the outside of the disk is spinning faster (in reference to a point outside the drive, or in reference to the head) than the middle (this is how gears and wheels make things go faster) so the large files can be read faster and not take so much time to load.

As for whether it is worth it, or whether there are any downsides, im not sure. I figure why not? Im sure anyone who programmed a defrag tool knows what they are talking about.
