Windows 10: When my computer is sleeping, my computer feels like it was shut down, but when I sign it...

So I found this annoying thing on my Windows computer when sleeping. When I try to press any key to awake the computer, the computer does not wake up. When I press the power button, it looks like the computer shuted down by itself. When I sign it on, it takes me to where I left of at. How do I stop this from happening? Thanks!

It is still possible to use the keyboard shortcuts keys to shutdown your computer by following the steps below:

• Make sure you are on the desktop page.
• Press and hold ALT + F4.
• Shut Down Windows will open and you can use arrow keys to either Sleep,
  Sign out, Shut down, or Restart.
• Hit Enter on preferred choice and the mode will take effect.

Why does my computer shut down as well as locking screen/sleep when ever it feels like it?

What is the make and model of the computer?

Sleep mode saves the state of all open applications to memory, then powers down both the display panel and hard disk drive. However, if it often goes to Sleep mode, you need to change the Sleep settings under Power & sleep. You can also refer this
link regarding shutdown, sleep, or hibernate your PC.

Having the most current software and drivers installed on your computer is necessary. So, I would suggest you install all the latest updates by going to
Settings > Update & Security > click on
Check for updates. To resolve the sleep mode issue, kindly follow the below methods and see if it helps.

Method 1: Restore default settings of power plan.

• Go to Control Panel and select
  Power Options.
  
• Click on Change advanced power settings.
  
• Select the option Restore default settings for this plan.
  

Method 2: Disable fast startup feature.

By turning of fast startup, it resolves most of the startup issues including Sleep mode. To disable the feature, follow the below mentioned steps.

• Go to Control Panel and change the
  view type to small icons. Choose Power Options from the list.
  
• Click on Choose what the power button do from the left hand side.
  
• Next click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and scroll down to
  uncheck the box in front of Turn on fast startup.
  
• Save the changes and Reboot the machine.
  

Method 3: Adjust your screen saver.

Screen saver function is sometimes baffled with sleep mode. Screen saver will keep your screen from going to whatever your default screen saver is (it will go to black if you have not selected a personal screen saver to display), so we need to set
it to None. To do that, follow the below mentioned steps.

• Go to Start menu and type screen saver.
  
• Click on Turn screen saver on or off.
  
• Select None in the Screen saver and
  uncheck the box On resume, display logon screen and click on
  Apply, OK.

Computer Sleep Option Missing in Settings

The Settings Power and Sleep menu in Settings should list Screen and Sleep, where Sleep is used to tell when the PC goes to sleep. Sleep is missing, so my computer never sleeps. Fast startup and Hibernate are not enabled.

I used Tutorial Add or Remove Sleep in Power menu in Windows 10 to change the registry while in administrative mode, but sleep still is not seen.


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FlyoutMenuSettings now lists :1: It was 0 before the change.






I cannot get a large image, so will type

I used Option 3 to add sleep using the Group Policy Editor. The steps seemed to work fine, but sleep is still missing.

I’m using a “new” refurbished Dell T3500 workstation with mbr running the current version of win10. I have a number of these computers, and the other all have the normal sleep mode .

Any suggestions? Jim
