    Hi,

What is the make and model of your computer?

The issue could be related to Display drivers then please try the steps provided to uninstall the
Display Adapter from Device Manager, uninstall the device drivers from program list and then download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    Step 1:

Uninstall the Device from Device Manager

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand the Display Adapter section.
    • Find the Display card Driver.
    • Right click Display card Driver and select
      Uninstall.
    • Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
    • Reboot the computer after uninstall process has finished.

    Step 2:

  3. Display isn't active - can't detect external displays

    Hi,

I would suggest you try the below solutions one by one to fix the issue.

Solution 1 — Clear your display cache to fix display issues

If you’re having problems with your external monitor connected to your Surface Dock, try clearing your display cache:

    Step 1:

Disconnect your Surface from the Surface Dock.

    Step 2:

Download the Surface Dock registry file and open it.

    https://download.microsoft.com/download/8/5/5/8...

    Step 3:

Select and run surface dock registry.reg.

    Step 4:

Click Yes to allow changes to your Surface > click OK.

    Step 5:

Restart your Surface > reconnect it to the Surface Dock > test your external display.

Solution 2—Reset the dock and monitor

If you still can’t use your external monitor, try resetting it together with the dock:

    Step 1:

Remove the Surface Connector from your Surface > plug it in again.

    Step 2:

Unplug your Surface Dock from the power outlet > plug it in again.

    Step 3:

Unplug your monitor from the power outlet > plug it back in.

    Surface connection to external device

    Hi Niveita,

The message that you received when connecting your Surface Pro to an external display may arise due to an incompatible display resolution. As an initial step to rule out any display rendering issues, we suggest that you change the
resolution on the Display settings. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Click on Start menu or the Windows logo.
    • Click on Settings or the gear icon.
    • Select System.
    • Under the Display tab, click on the Advance display settings link.
    • Set the resolution to 1366 x 768 or lower.
    • Once you're done, check if the issue persist.

In the event that the issue persists, try changing the resolution under Control Panel >
Intel Graphics Settings and check if you encounter the same issue.

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.
