  1. When opening an old photos, some are filled mostly with solid colour

I am looking through some old photos I have from my old Win XP machine, and when I open some of them they are filled with solid colour from half way to nearly all the way as shown in the picture below. When I first retrieved them from the XP machine they all opened fine and without any issue. From the folder where the photo is stored if I click "View medium sized icons" I can view the whole photo, but when I move it to "View large icons" or "View Extra large icons" the solid colour that fills the majority of a photo appears.

This is what I see when i open the photo: When opening an old photos, some are filled mostly with solid colour 2ec9d267-7ec5-45d4-8b3f-130c194d261d?upload=true.jpg

This is what I see in the folder where it is stored screenshot hence the bad quality and low resolution:

I hope someone can help me resolve this as the photos have a lot of sentimental value to me.

Thanks for the help it means a lot.

    :)

Thumbnails have partial solid colour (in Photo Gallery/Windows Explorer/IrfanView)

I am experiencing issues with the thumbnails of .jpg files in Photo Gallery. I installed Windows 10 last month and have just started using PhotoG.

When opening an old photos, some are filled mostly with solid colour 39c286ad-67a2-448a-8494-56fff0abc77a.jpg

I just downloaded some photos (using Import) from a Samsung S3phone are showing the a quarter or half or three quarters of the thumbnail in a solid colour (could be brown, maroon, grey, green - appears to pick up the colour from the photo) 8 out of 39 are
affected from todays lot. The solid bit starts from the bottom up. I have not made any changes to the files or done any re-saving. .mp4 files are fine

When I open the .jpg file it appears fine. However during the screensaver today noticed one photos showed up with the solid bit- very weird.

If I view thumbnails in File Explorer or IrfanView- the same pics have the same solid colour.

If I rotate the pic left then back right again(with photo gallery), the preview corrects itself.

Why? Is it the file transfer?

How can I stop this happening?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Background change (to picture) results in a solid colour, not an image

As the title suggests I try to change my desktop background and it will not accept the image. It will simply put a solid colour there instead. I have tried from the settings panel and even from the image viewer. The image viewer results in an error and suggests I need to activate Windows. It is activated.

Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

    Thanks for your reply.

I haven't tried your suggestion as I think I may have discovered the reason why the block of solid colour is occurring.

Probable Reason: I had always chosen to import the photos into Photo Gallery, and checked "delete files from device after importing" (as part of PG set-up options).

During the last 4 imports I said not to delete the files after importing...and the problem seems to have gone away.

Effect: That just means I need to use 'File Explorer' to delete the images or use the phone itself.

    I will continue to monitor.

    Thanks for your help
