Windows 10: When turning computer on it required me to use a password

Hi,


A long time ago I set my computer so that I had to log in with a password. I deleted the requirement a long time ago and just turn my computer on and I'm in.


However, today I was required to sign in using a password. Thankfully I had the password saved in a safe place or I would not have been able to get on the computer.


The setting show I DO NOT have a password requirement.


So what is going on?

Enable Require password on Wake up Windows 10

To further troubleshoot the issue, we suggest disabling and
enabling the Require a password on wakeup settings on your power plan
by following the steps below:

• Open the Advanced power settings for your current chosen
  power plan.
• Click on the Change settings that are currently unavailable link.
• Set the Require a password on wakeup settings to Yes
  or No, and click on OK.

Once done with the steps, let us know how it goes.

You can reset your password following the next steps:

• Reboot your computer / Turn your computer on.
• Hold down the Shift key at the start of the boot process to enable the GNU GRUB boot menu (if it does not show)
• Press ESC at the GNU GRUB prompt.
• Press e for edit.
• Use the Arrow keys to highlight the line that begins with kernel and press the e key.
• Go to the very end of the line and add rw init=/bin/bash
• Press Enter and then press b to boot your system.
• Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.
• Type in passwd yourusername
• Set your new password.
• Restart your system.

 

No Password required After Computer falls asleep

Since the security features are enhanced on Windows, this happens when the password is disabled on the computer to ensure there is no protection for your user account, however you may enable the password and check if that
helps you.

Here are steps to disable the password after waking from sleep.

1. Click Start.

2. Click Control Panel.

3. Click Power Options.

4. Click on “Require Password on Wakeup” on the left pane.

5. Click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.

5. Select the first option “Require a password.”

Note: when your computer wakes from sleep, no one can access the data because the computer is locked.
