  1. When using File Explorer, cannot see all jpg metadata created by a Mac and vice versa

Not sure if this is the correct location to ask these questions but here goes.

When using Windows File Explorer I cannot see a jpg "comment" if the jpg was first stored on a mac and vice versa. That is, when using a Mac the jpg "comments" created on a Windows computer do not display.

    So what is the problem?

Our household has a Windows laptop and a MacBook. An external hard drive is shared. We have been putting pictures JPGs on the external drive from both computers. about 32,000 pictures thus far When we use windows/file explorer to look at the “comment” field in the metadata, we only see comments that were entered using the Windows computer. When we use the Mac and look at the comment field in the metadata, we only see comments that were entered using the Mac.

Question 1: is there any way for Windows/file explorer to view the “comments” in the metadata if the jpg file was saved by a Mac? and vice versa If so, how?

Question 2: when using the finder window not sure if that is right term? in a Mac the comment field is searched for instance, if “family” was in the comments field , but not necessarily in the filename, and you searched “family” then those files with the word “family” in the comment field would be displayed This is a handy feature! Is the content in the comment field of a jpg created under the Windows environment searchable using file explorer? If so, how?

Question 3: we are thinking about scrapping the external hard drive and going to OneDrive. My use of OneDrive to date is limited, but the interface looks a lot like File Explorer. Does anyone know if it has the same issues as described above?

    - can you see the all the metadata created by a Mac or just some OR only metadata created under the Windows environment?

    - can you search the metadata for “comments” or are you restricted to searching just the filename, dates, size and few others?

    :)

  2. Changing Public to Private Networks and Vice versa

Here is another way to do it.

    Open File Explorer

In the Navigation pane, right click 'Network'

    Click Properties

Under 'Control Panel home' click Change advanced sharing settings

There you should be able to change your network profile from private to public or vice-versa.

Cannot edit any metadata in audio and video files

I'm running Windows 10, fully updated. All of a sudden and for no apparent reason, I'm unable to update any metadata/tags for audio and video files. Haven't tried to update metadata for other types of files.

It's very important to me to be able to edit the metadata/tags on audio files so that my 14,000+ audio files organize correctly for playlists, etc., and I like proper metadata on video files as good practice.

Audio files are largely .mp3, and video files are either .mp4 or .wmv.

I have tried Properties > Details on individual files in File Explorer and several tag/metadata editors that have worked great for years. Some tag editors will show the metadata/tags it allegedly saved, but when I go back to File Explorer
they're not there. I have also ensured that the same metadata/tag categories I edited in tag editors display in File Explorer.

I've also tried some suggestions from forums:

    • Making sure proper permissions are granted
    • Ensuring I'm signed in to Microsoft
    • Copying a file and trying to edit the copy's metadata/tags
    • Copying the files to new and existing other folders and trying to edit
    • Ensuring the files are not read-only

Any ideas on what could have made the metadata/tags uneditable all of a sudden, and more importantly how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
