I understand that in a corporate environment the need to avoid using a PC as a local admin, and that you should use the PC as a standard user for day-to-day use. However, my home PC is different because it was set up with my Microsoft account and thus my user "is" the admin. There is no other user on that PC. Question: will elevating the UAC User Account Control Settings to "Always Notify" enable the same potential level of protection the standard Windows user has? I don't want to have to set up a separate local admin account on my personal use PC, which seems a waste of time if by elevating

  2. Any way to enable an admin password for UAC in windows 10?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if this helps:

    • Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button.
    • Then type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.

    • Do one of the following:
    • To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.
    • To turn on UAC, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

Can't keep UAC disabled (never notify)

It's easy to do Enable or Disable UAC prompt for Built-in Administrator in Windows | Windows 10 Tutorials (Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account = Enabled). It works for a few reboots. Then it's magically back to Disabled (and action center says "You must restart your computer to turn on User Account Control".

What's the next step to force this thing to stay at "never notify"? (And yes, I have strong anti-virus protection and everything, I'm willing to take the risk this setting brings.)

UAC disable still asks for elevation using runas in cmd

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

User Account Control (UAC) can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. UAC notifies you when changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission.

Please provide more information to help you better:

    1. Have you made any changes to the pc prior to this issue?

    2. Have you logged in as admin on the pc?

I suggest you to change the user account control settings and check if it helps.

    • Type user account settings in search bar.

    • Now change the notification level down.

Hope the information is helpful. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance in this regard.
