When will Microsoft support EXT filesystems?

Microsoft has taken big strides to embrace Linux and open source technologies in recent years, with its WSL Windows Subsystem for Linux and more recently, WSL 2 with GUI capabilities. These are incredibly useful to someone dual-booting Windows, Linux, and working on said OS' simultaneously; but there is yet still one major flaw that WSL cannot overcome without integration into the NT kernel, the lack of EXT support.

Without EXT support, I find myself still contained in the 'bubble' I expect from a traditional VM instance; I can work in a familiar scripting language bash on my Windows system, but I cannot manipulate files on my Linux OS. The same cannot be said for managing Windows disks from a Linux OS which fully supports the primary Windows filesystem NTFS out of the box. This means it's easy to manage files from both Operating Systems on Linux but impossible on Windows, regardless of WSL.

Perhaps someone will say, "Just use NTFS in Linux" but there are numerous reasons this is a bad idea:

    1. NTFS doesn't support POSIX perms, and despite most of the popular Linux Distributions and their packages being able to handle this for the installation, a lot of simple or legacy programs are going to fail to work properly, and software development and systems administration will be a nightmare.
    2. EXT4 is simply better in every technical way than NTFS: maximum disk size, partition size, no fragmentation, unlimited directories, better journaling, and everything else... EXT4 vs NTFS comparison
    3. EXT4 can do both POSIX perms and Windows ACLs simultaneously on the same partition. You could effectively have a hybrid, separate, or two-way design of permissions on files for both OS' if Windows supported EXT4 and POSIX perms.

With Windows also being developed for ARM chips, Microsoft must surely foresee the use of Windows on IoT devices; which I'm sure many users of are also using Raspbian, with an ext4 filesystem. Yet another roadblock for the developers using a Windows desktop being they will struggle to manage the files on these devices in any way other than a network share.

So will all these factors mentioned, surely ext support in the Windows NT kernel must be in the pipeline?

    Thanks for any replies :

    :)

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

  3. B3 Phenom support

I checked gigabyte's site on my GA-M57 and it didn't say anything about b3 stepping update, but all of the x3 chips are b3 steppings, so just use the x3 support bios if available.

When will Microsoft support EXT filesystems?

    Microsoft Edge TLS Security

After trying everything (not a lot of steps) listed in the Microsoft Edge support site, I did a wider search and found this very simple youtube video that fixed it immediately:

For those who prefer not to click links the steps are simple:

    1. Click in the Cortana search bar next to the Win 10 Start button

    2. Type internet options

    3. Select internet options (control panel) from the list

    4. Click on the advanced tab

    5. Scroll down to the security section

    6. Make sure the following are all clicked:
    Use SSL 3.0
    Use TLS 1.0
    Use TLS 1.1
    Use TLS 1.2

    7. Click apply

    8. Refresh the page that was giving the error and it should now connect.

Hope this helps, it was a 30 second fix after hours of pounding my head against the error with the Support site suggestions.
