Windows Photo and facial recognition.

I'd like to reawaken this thread, as the original question was not answered.

I had read articles suggesting that the Photos app wouldgain facial recognition as part of the creators update, but now the update is arriving, this does not seem to be in the list of enhancements.

As a user still of MS Photo Gallery, I'm eagerly awaiting this function so that I can streamline the apps needed to manage/view my photos.

 

Photos and facial recognition

LIke a lot of people, facial recognition in Photos does not work for me. My 20,000 photos have thousands of faces recognised in Google. On my iphone the People tag in in the OneDrive app has thousands of people photos from the same database of photos.
Photos from either my or my wife''s IDs on PC has a few dozen faces for a handful of individuals.

Yes I have the latest version of Windows.

Yes I have the latest version of Photos.

Yes I have reinstalled the app.

Yes I gave repaired the app.

Yes I have reset the app.

Today I noticed some thing I had come across before. In SETTING there is a list of folders where the collection is located. If I click on one of these folders I get an error message;

LOCATION IS NOT AVAILABLE

This is odd. The photos from this location appear in the collection and the location is available via File Explorer. Is this the source of the facial recognition error.? Why can file explorer see a location and Photos cannot?

Responses from MS would be particularly welcome as long as they start from the premise that;

the latest upgrade to the Photo App in Windows 10 has a cool feature that offers facial recognition via something called "my people" where I can see all photos for a particular person. however, my mother's computer, which is definitely upgraded to the
latest version of windows 10, does NOT show this new feature in the Windows Photo App. Any suggestions for turning on this AI facial recognition feature on my mother's computer?
