    Press Windows key + R

    Type: control

    Hit Enter

    Open Autoplay

Under DVDs, click in the DVD list box and choose a default.

The only choices for Win+E are This PC or Quick Access. I would just make a desktop shortcut to "C:\MyStuff\MyShortcuts" and/or pin it to taskbar for one-click access. I do this for Downloads which I use regularly.

    Further to what mrgeek said.
If you create a short cut you can then under its properties assign a shortcut key such as Control + Shift + E.

I was just asking something about File Explorer . . . Right-click on the file you want, and send a Shortcut to the Desktop . . . But if you put it in a BAT file, you can not only go to that folder, but use NirCmd to get File Explorer to open by default to the "Views" tab:

Win 10 File Explorer - open to a folder, to the View tab, using NirCmd . . . Win 10 File Explorer - open to a folder, to the View tab, using NirCmd

If you have File Explorer pinned to the taskbar a right-click on it lists all the recent folders you have visited - click on one to open File Explorer at that folder. If you hover the mouse over one of the folders in the list, a pin appears to the right. Click on this to pin your most important folders to the list so that they'll always be available.

But how do I pin File Explorer to my task bar?
For a start I have 3 different copies of FileExplorer.exe - which one should I use?

    A) C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-fileexplorer.appxmain_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_8c575bad6e8f346f\FileExplorer.exe

    B) C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.FileExplorer_cw5n1h2txyewy\FileExplorer.exe

    C) C:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\f875fbb4cab0384277a81aa667874b95\amd64_Microsof t-Windows-EditionPack-Professional-Package~~AMD64~~10.0.16299.15\amd64_microsoft-windows-fileexplorer.appxmain_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_8c575bad6e8f346f\fileexplorer.exe
Okay, maybe it doesn't matter(??), so I have created a shortcut on my desktop to the WinSxS copy. And I then dragged it onto my Quick Launch area of my taskbar (at the bottom of the screen).

Right-clicking on it does NOT show any recent folders visited.
Left-clicking on it does not appear to do anything at all ! :^(

Secondly, I have also tried dragging my folders that contains the shortcuts that I want directly onto my Task Bar's "Quick Launch" area. If I left-click on this, it works nicely (i.e. it takes me to my list of my desired shortcuts), but although it lets me assign a shortcut (e.g. Control+Alt+Q), the shortcut doesn't work!

    EDIT:
Wait, I have found a file called "explorer.exe" - is that the one I want??
    e.g.
    "C:\Windows\explorer.exe"

Although there are other copies around:
    - C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe
    - C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.248_none_5f44643de481e697\explorer.exe
    - C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_74a0d304eae0e1e9\explorer.exe
    - C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_7ef57d571f41a3e4\explorer.exe
    - C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.248_none_69990e9018e2a892\explorer.exe

Either way I have dragged "C:\Windows\explorer.exe" onto my Quick Launch area and left-clicking on it seems to create the same window as holding down Windows+E.

But again I can't get any hotkeys to work to open it. [GRRR]

Open File Explorer the normal way (eg WinKey+E). It will then have an icon on the taskbar, right-click on it and select 'Pin to taskbar'.

To see the jump list of recently opened items for File Explorer (or any other app) you also need to make sure that 'Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar' is turned on in Settings > Personalisation > Start.
