Windows 10: Whenever I connect my phone with my pc via usb i can transfer photos but cannot transfer file.

I have HP 250 G3 Notebook PC windows 8.1 pro 64bit . Whenever I connect my phone with my PC via usb i can transfer photos but cannot transfer files. You know that, when a phone is connected with PC there are three options available -1. Charge Phone2. Transfer Files3. Transfer PhotosWhen i choose to transfer photos, my PC opens the folder of photos of my phone. But when i choose transfer files my phone gets disconnected from the PC.I have searched all over the web to fix this but nothing works. Pls suggest me some useful ways to fix this.NOTE THAT, I have enabled developer option, usb debugging

No. That is totally unnecessary. @NavyLCDR in his post did not show all the steps. Here is what he left out...

Connect the phone to the PC with a USB cable
On the phone swipe down from the top to show notifications
Locate the USB notification and open it





In the USB settings make sure Transferring files is selected.





Look for your phone in File Explorer





If you you double-click on it and nothing is shown that means you forgot to unlock the phone's screen





After you unlock the phone's screen the phone's storage will be shown





Double-click on the storage will show the contents. The phone's photos and screenshots will be in the DCIM folder.
