Windows 10: Whenever I try to set my own pictures as desktop background, the background turns black.

I seem to only be able to use Microsoft themes, they show without problems. But whenever I try to set my own pictures as desktop background, the background turns black.When I go to personalization in settings, there's no option to change backgrounds other than choosing a theme.

Lost desktop background

I did a Search & Distroy spyware scan the other day, and one of the suggested "fixes" said something about removing Active Desktop. Like the muppet I am I clicked yes and am now without a desktop background picture.

Does anyone have an idea how to reverse this? If I try to select a picture it's simply not added as a background.

 

Black Background on Desktop after Windows Edge Update Background picture gone

After a recent Windows 10 update (possibly for EDGE), My desktop reverted to a black background and all my folders were rearranged. I went to settings to fix my background, chose my picture, and nothing. It will not show the picture I chose for my Desktop
background. I have tried all suggested fixes online. Nothing works. Please help. Thank you.

• Did you get any error messages or error codes?

In the meantime, we suggest that you try to check if the "Show Windows Background" option is turned on. Follow the steps below:

• Open Settings in the Start menu.
• Go to Ease of Access, then on the left side, click
  Other options.
• Turn on Show Windows Background and check if it works.
