Word (in Win365) is slow to non-responsive

I have noticed in past 1-2 weeks that Word has often been slow/non-responding when attempting to open document. I've been running Windows 365 for several months, and this slow-down has been a recent development.

Today Word took so long to open (about 2 minutes) that I did a Restart to try to correct problem, but it is still showing a frequest "non-responsive" status.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop (purchased in 2016); system has 6GB RAM (5GB usable) and runs 64-bit OS. I've checked laptop operation (e.g. disk fragmentation) and have not found any hardware error codes.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for improving Word performance.

 

Numbering in Word

I'm working on a tutorial for Skype, and need to have a numbered list. Everything was working fine, but then I must have pressed something I shouldn't have, and now my numbering is all crazy!

It used to look like this:





But now when I try to number a list, it looks like this:





As you can see, the numbers are moved over one tab too many, but so far, nothing I do will make the numbering right.

I've been trying to figure this out for a couple hours and I'm at a loss as to what I did, or how to fix it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Click your Start Button, then just type Word

If you have Word on your system, it will show in the resulting list

If not, in the alphabetical list of Apps on your Start Menu, scroll down to M

Do you see a Microsoft Office folder?

If not, Word is not on your System . ..

If you do not find word, until you resolve that, you can open most non-complex word documents in Wordpad

Click your Start Button, type wordpad and hit Enter to open Wordpad
