    Should I remove web companion/ lavasoft from Windows 10

    You posted in the Windows Defender forum.

    So - - I presume that the presence of Web Companion did not disable Windows Defender.

    Adaware Web Companion - Prevent malware infections and privacy breeches at its source.

    Google

    The decision as to whether to use Web Companion is up to you.

    Where do they come from despite having AV at your disposal?

    Most probably they come with freeware software. Often free softwares install these search engines as it is in their terms and condition.

    Bonjour is a part of iTunes and helps you connect your other devices to your computer.
    Bing is offered as an "optional" add on for some "Free" Software. Got to pay for it somehow.
    Web Companion is bundled with Lavasoft's Adaware malware remover and is part of it's suite.
    Usually when you install "Free" software, it asks you if you would like this "optional" software, most people click right past this message and by default it installs to pay for the "Free" Software.

    Unchecky helps by picking up most of these annoyances in installers. Unchecky - Keeps your checkboxes clear It is a small program that starts with windows and sits in the system tray. It monitors all installations and will warn of any potentially unwanted programs and uncheck them.

    Nice app Kado and thanks for sharing.
    Unfortunately, the majority of free apps is offering another app that may or may not affect stability.

    It is very important to read the installation procedure, decline any offer(s). Most important is to go in custom installation to removed undesirable options.
