  1. Where does Excel specify the location of the Personal.xslb file?

I recently got a new PC and moved all my files and programs and most everything works well. But Excel doesn't open the Personal.xlsb file. The folder that contains all my Excel files also contains a folder named Startup which contains Personal.xlsb, but Excel doesn't load it. I looked under File Options and found a heading "Startup Options" but it didn't have a place to specify the location of the Start Up folder. Can you point me in the right direction?

    :)

Cannot save an excel file to any location on C:

It sounds like you have Ransomware Protection turned on in Windows Security. You can check to see if it has recently blocked your Excel. See Option One in this tutorial, at Step 5 click 'Recently blocked apps'. If Excel appears there, add it to the list of allowed apps.

  3. FIles in Word, Excel and other programmes will not open from the explorer

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and thanks for providing us an opportunity to assist you.

    Please follow the steps.

    Step 1:

Lets try to disable the DDE option following these steps:

    • Click the File tab, and then click
      Options.
    • Click Advanced, and then click to clear the
Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the
      General area.
    Click OK.

    Step 2:

If the issue persists, uncheck the compatibility options by doing the following:

Right click on Excel (.exe) Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

    Windows 8 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

    Windows 8 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

  4. Where does Excel specify the location of the Personal.xslb file?

Unable to view or open an excel file from Temp location on Windows 10.

    Hi Arun,

The above issue might occur if you did not save the file before shutting down or signing out from the user account on the computer. The issue might also occur if you have deleted the excel file from the computer.

Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

    • Did you try to search the excel file using
      Windows Search
      function?

    • Do you get any error message/error code on accessing the file from Excel program?

If you remember the excel file name saved on the computer, follow the steps below and check if you are able to view the file.

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard to initiate
Windows Search function on the computer.

    • Type the excel file name and wait for the search to show at the top most search result in the window. You can also search according to the folder or drive on which the file is saved by selecting appropriate icon located at the
      top of the search window.

    • Click on the file name and check if you are able to access the same on the computer.

If you have deleted the excel file, check if the same is available in
    Recycle Bin
and restore the file to the saved location by right clicking on the file and selecting
    Restore from the context menu.

Write to us with the status of not able to find and access the excel file on the computer in the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
