    Where have been all the files from c:\windows gone?


    HelloI am using Windows 10. Yesterday, I rebooted my laptop after replacing the battery. After that MS Win has not been working any more.I ran Windows diagnostics but startup repair outlines" Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC"I also ran chkdsk etc. but no error has been reported.So I enabled startup loging and after that I logged in and used command prompt. All files are here but all files in folder c:\windows are missing. If Win is in repair mode I do not see any user account.I seems that the hard drive is working fine and all files are here.Attachedd some pictures.Does anybody have an i

    Why did the startup window get cleared?

    I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

    okay ive done the same thing as you but i cant put the file back into the folder

    • Copy nvlddmkm.sys in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_5518e59e8d3b48f4\ to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ and replace the existing one.

    C windows installer folder - Delete?

    He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink Where have been all the files from c:\windows gone? ;)
    Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
    First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
    Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

    Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
