Windows 10: Where/how do I designate by which method I access my mail account. Per ex: I use version...

Every time I enter AOL Mail I'm told my "AOL settings are out of date. I enquired how to update and am told:


I'm trying to update my AOL mail' I'm supposed to designate how I access my mail; I access via Windows 10.


I never use Outlook for anything anymore.


I hope this is what is needed for updating my AOL service?


Please let me know what else is required?

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account


Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Outlook account not working in Mail since November Update 1511

Thank you. These settings were already set as you suggest. My outlook.com (Hotmail) account is still not syncing in Mail on my tablet. Furthermore, it has now stopped syncing on my laptop too. My other 3 accounts sync fine.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed? (Type winver
  in Windows search/Run command)
• Do you see the emails in same format, while accessing the emails using a browser?
• Do you see this behavior in other applications outside of Mail App?

Let’s try a couple of troubleshooting steps and see if we can fix the issue.



Method 1: Update Mail App

If you are using an older version of Mail app, we would suggest you to update Mail app to version 16005.12827.20400.0 and check.

1. Open Microsoft Store and click on three dots from the top left corner.
   
2. Select Downloads and Update and click on Get Updates.
   
3. Select Mail and Calendar app from the list and update.
   
4. Restart the PC and check.
   

Method 2: Reset the app



Try resetting the app using the troubleshooter. Refer the article

Method 3: Re-configure the email



We would suggest you to re-configure email account in Mail app as an IMAP/POP account. Refer the articles
